Childrens Hospital of The King's Daughters Pharmacy Clerk - Outpatient in Norfolk, Virginia
GENERAL SUMMARY
The Pharmacy Clerk - Outpatient works under the direct supervision of a pharmacist as stated by the Virginia Board of Pharmacy. This position provides administrative support to the pharmacy staff, assists customers, and manages retail floor / Over the Counter (OTC) inventory. Reports to the Pharmacy Operations Manager – Outpatient.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Greets and assists customers in a friendly and professional manner.
Uses computer and relevant programs to charge/credit patients for medications and retail floor / OTC products.
Optimizes workflow by organizing and prioritizing phone calls and window traffic and directing pharmacist and technicians where needed.
Maintains appropriate retail floor / OTC stock levels through ordering and stock rotation, and removal of expired products.
Develops rapport with patients and hospital staff by being highly visible and available to serve their needs and address concerns as they arise.
Performs all other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
Required Education and Experience
High school diploma or equivalent required at the time of hire.
At time of hire, a record of completion for all education, licenses, training and/or certifications is required.
Continuous certification and/or maintenance of state licensures, certifications, training, educational and application requirements is required during employment.

Possesses strong verbal, written, and interpersonal skills as well as, the ability to deal effectively and courteously with a variety of departmental, hospital personnel, and patients when obtaining and/or dispensing medications and ability interact with and build collegial relationships with diverse individuals.
Basic Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications like Word, managing email, navigating the internet, basic file management, data entry, understanding operating systems, and the ability to troubleshoot minor computer issues; essentially, the ability to use common software applications to perform basic tasks effectively.
WORKING CONDITIONS
Pharmacy employees work in or near a clinical patient care environment with minimal exposure to hazards such as excess noise, dust, or extremes in temperature. Minimal or occasional exposure to communicable diseases, toxic substances, medicinal preparations, and other conditions common in a healthcare environment. Minimum adverse working conditions related to the proximity and services of the clinical healthcare services
