SUMMARY:Life Cycle Engineer (LCE) works directly for the Engineering Manager. Primary duty is to serve as Senior Advisor to the Port Engineers to identify and resolve items that would otherwise not be considered Corrective or Preventive Maintenance. GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES: Life Cycle Engineer is considered a working Technical Position, whereas following the identification or a need for “Technical Services” to resolve a problem; LCE will perform Ship Check, formulate a proposal for correction and discuss with regulatory bodies for acceptance to submit a specification within NSE. Responsibilities include: · Perform equipment and structural systems surveys on board vessels to identify conditions and provide solutions to correct Class and/or non- Gap related items. The survey will include the understanding of modification notifications and changes that require collaboration with Regulatory Bodies. · Analyze complex and unusual machinery/system problems and provide resolution or options for resolution to the owner for consideration to repair now or future event. This will include specification writing, estimating cost and delivery to vendors for bidding. · Creates life extension recommendations for all critical systems, documents expected lifespan, and recommends solutions with supporting evidence for items which are not expected to function properly through the life of the vessel. These inputs are to be funneled into the business plan, which will include cost estimating and collaboration with industry for best design feature and longevity. · Review Lube Oil and Condition Monitoring Trends monthly to ensure Port Engineer and Ship Action. Keep Engineering Manager apprised of any conditions that prevents or removes ship from readiness. · During Activations, Sea Trials and other events where additional support is needed, will provide support to the PE in the form of spec build, cost estimate and soliciting of OEM and Industry Specialists to support the event(s). · Assist in development of maintenance and repair budget for current and next Annual Year Projections. · Assist in the creation of drydocking bid specifications and voyage repair shipyard bid packages. Attendance at Dry Dock may be required but not as primary function of duty. EDUCATION:Bachelor's degree in naval architecture, marine engineering, mechanical engineering or related field; or a combination of post high school and equal experience may be substituted for education. EXPERIENCE:10 or more years’ experience as a naval architect, marine engineer, or mechanical engineer, with a minimum of 3 years working in a supervisory capacity. TECHNICAL PROFICIENCY:Proficient in AutoCAD and Microsoft Office products, including Excel, Outlook and Word. COMPETENCIES:Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships. Ability to prioritize, organize and perform multiple work assignments simultaneously. Ability to evaluate process effectiveness and develop changes or alternatives. Ability to review project work, quantities, costs, accuracy of specifications, completeness, and constructability. Ability to interpret architectural/engineering drawings, specifications, codes, standards, and regulatory requirements. Ability to effectively manage projects that may vary in nature and scope. Knowledge of and ability to utilize design techniques, tools, and principles involved in the production of precision technical plans, blueprints, drawings, and models. Knowledge of principles, practices and concepts of project management. Knowledge of federal, state and local safety regulations, protocols, and procedures as they pertain to environmental health standards. OTHER:Professional engineering license preferred. JOB SCOPE:Position impacts single business units/segments. WORKING CONDITIONS:Works both inside an office environment and outside in conditions of both high and low temperatures. May be exposed to odors, dust, dirt, mechanical hazards, high noise levels and potentially dangerous equipment. Must be able to crouch and stoop to get into areas with restricted headroom and be able to climb ladders. May require extended use of computer keyboard and viewing of computer monitor and ability to sit for long periods of time.
