The Manager of Surgical Services is responsible for overseeing patient care activities and ensuring the smooth operation of all surgical services departments, including the Operating Room (OR), Recovery Room (RR), and related units. The role requires strong leadership, the ability to mentor and develop staff, and a commitment to high-quality nursing care that meets or exceeds patient expectations. Additionally, this position will manage unit budgets, staffing plans, and performance improvement goals while collaborating with surgeons, physicians, and hospital administration.
Essential Job Functions:
Meets all requirements of surgical services staff nurse positions.
Provides for smooth operation of units.
Develops/evaluates performance improvement plans for assigned units. Evaluates quality on an ongoing basis.
Works and collaborates with the Surgical Care Committee surgeons/physicians to ensure best clinical practices, continually improving Surgical Services quality measures and Press Ganey Scores.
Responsible for organizing and advanced preparation of documents for the quarterly Surgical Care Committee Meeting in collaboration with the surgeons/physicians on Surgical Care Committee.
Maintains current knowledge of practice standards for assigned units and implements changes/updates as needed following those standards.
Plans unit budgets and evaluates effectively. Updates charge master as appropriate.
Plans appropriate staffing patterns which ensure safe and efficient patient care.
Provides for professional growth and development of staff.
Promotes a multi-disciplinary team approach to all patient care.
Assists staff in planning for change and negotiating change effectively.
Demonstrates professional behavior and appearance.
Education:
Required: Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) from an accredited program.
Preferred: Master of Science in Nursing (MSN).
Licensure:
- Required: Current Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of Iowa.
Experience:
Required: Minimum 2 years of clinical experience in perioperative nursing.
Required: Minimum 2 years of managerial or demonstrated leadership experience in a clinical setting.
