Title: FABRIC WORKER SUPERVISOR - FULL TIME Location: United States-Rhode Island-Newport Job Number: 240002AE Job Summary: Serves as supervisor in charge of the Uniform Shop with responsibility for efficiently managing and directing the activities of subordinate personnel NA-3 through NA-5 engaged in modifying altering repairing and fitting garments. Duties and Responsibilities: Supervises approximately 3-10 employees predominantly in grades NA-5 engaged in performing tailoring functions such as fitting altering uniform garments lengthening and shortening pants letting in and out waist of jackets replacing zippers lowering collars replacing pockets making alterations to dresses skirts and slacks etc. for authorized patrons and the operation of a cash register. - Establishes work schedule ensuring that there is enough work to keep everyone busy. Maintains time cards approves disapproves leave prepares work performance reviews. Checks work in progress and when finished for compliance with deadlines. Answers workers questions regarding procedures policies written instructions. Keeps supervisor informed on status and progress of work causes of delays and problems which requires corrective action. Carries out EEO policies and communicates support of these policies to subordinates. Assures equality in determining qualifications recommends selections assignments training promotions awards and discipline to employees. Ensures that minorities and women are considered for training opportunities. - Prepares and submits Tailor Shop Daily process Report to supervisor and controls the Merchandise Transfers at the Uniform Shop. Is responsible for requisitioning supplies and equipment maintains adequate supplies on hand at all times following established procedures. - Maintains accurate records and logs and is responsible for the maintenance of cash fund for the operation. - Maintains good customer relations notes incidence of claims for damaged articles complaints regarding reports of inferior work quality and makes recommendations concerning changes in operations or procedures to ensure non-recurrence. - Performs other related duties as assigned Qualifications: GENERAL EXPERIENCE One year of experience that provided the applicant with knowledge and skill to carry out basic modifications alterations and repair of clothing. SUBSTITUTION OF EDUCATION FOR EXPERIENCE One year of high school education may be substituted for 3 months of general experience up to a High School Diploma or GED for one year of general experience. SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE One year of experience that provided the applicant with the knowledge and skill in the use of a sewing machine to perform alternations and repairs to garments such as pinning and basting trimming lengthening and shortening sleeves taking in and letting out waists of jackets replacing zippers lowering collars replacing pockets shortening and lengthening pants tapering skirts sewing on ratings and stripes etc.
