This Vice President will be an integral part of the Mergers & Acquisitions team within Corporate Development, tasked with supporting American Express growth and profitability through M&A transactions. This individual will be responsible for working in close consultation with the AXP business units and senior management to identify and execute on acquisition, divestiture and joint venture transactions.
Key Responsibilities:
Work with senior management and business units to frame and prioritize strategic objectives and evaluate M&A opportunities against identified strategies.
Develop landscapes for key strategic focus areas and business cases for specific targets, including detailed financial evaluation.
Ongoing monitoring of developments and trends in various payments, lending, B2B, digital consumer services, and other industries pertinent to our customers.
Lead deal teams to evaluate potential transactions and develop business cases from strategic, operational and financial perspectives.
Ownership of most all elements of day-to-day execution and managing cross-functional teams to ensure deliverables meet internal and external deadlines.
Support and lead selected internal and external negotiations
Preparing and communicating recommendations to senior management, including interaction with C-level management and the Executive Committee.
Establish best practices, standardize processes and methodologies for approaching M&A transactions.
Managing colleagues within the M&A team as well as cross functional project teams to deliver high quality results and seamless transaction execution.
Minimum Qualifications
8-10 years previous experience in investment banking, corporate development, or business development
Must possess excellent business acumen and strong collaboration and influencing skill as well as ability to drive results
Strong analytical capability, including the ability to quickly learn new business models and identify trends in both existing and emerging industries
Expert financial and valuation skills and must be able to frame and guide financial analyses.
Excellent project and process management skills and able to manage multiple projects simultaneously and drive results while working under tight deadlines.
Strong written and verbal communication skills, including ability to distill complex issues quickly and summarize key implications to senior management
Strong understanding and experience with transaction negotiations as well as definitive agreements
Strong leadership skills, with ability to mentor and coach members of the M&A and broader project / deal teams.
In depth knowledge of AXP businesses a plus.
MBA strongly preferred.
Qualifications
Salary Range: $185,000.00 to $260,000.00 annually bonus equity (if applicable) benefits
