Sustainability Specialist (HEOa) - Facilities

POSITION DETAILS

Reporting to the Director of Environmental Health and Occupational Safety at The City College of New York, the Environmental Health and Safety Specialist will support the Director in the development, implementation, and sustainability and energy management of the college.

In addition to the CUNY Title Overview, tasks include but are not limited to the following:

• Coordinate informational presentations and promote energy and water conservation, waste minimization, recycling, and procurement of green products with students, faculty, and staff to promote understanding and awareness of sustainability issues

• Serve as a liaison between various campus entities to ensure communication and resource coordination for sustainability programs and projects

• Compile College data on sustainability initiatives and prepare management reports

• Interpret sustainability goals and track performance metrics to assess program effectiveness

• Assist in facilities management as appropriate related to implementing energy conservation programs

• Support the overall success of the College's sustainability efforts by performing other duties as assigned

• Conduct various safety trainings for students, faculty, and staff (e.g., Laboratory Safety, Right to Know, Radiation Safety, etc.)

• Collaborate with the Director in conducting Biological, Chemical, or fire safety inspections, keep appropriate records, and write reports of findings

• Assist with environmental inspections and audits to ensure compliance with government mandates and college guidelines

• Assists with inspections related to occupational safety and respond to health and safety concerns

• Other tasks as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor's degree and four years' related experience required.

CUNY TITLE OVERVIEW

Assists in managing academic and administrative environmental health and safety programs.

  • Prepares reports of activities, inventories, incidents, environmental monitoring and related matters

  • Assists in the inspection of laboratories, chemical storage rooms and other facilities, ensuring compliance with government and university regulations

  • Administers biological, chemical, and radioactive waste disposal programs by communicating with faculty and staff, organizing collection, and contacting appropriate disposal vendors

  • May assist in developing compliance strategies and programs for various requirements such as EPA regulations, OSHA/PESH standards and New York's occupational and environmental regulations

  • Works with members of the College community to provide professional guidance and assistance on environmental health and safety implications of various projects

  • May respond to environmental health and safety complaints

  • Performs related duties as assigned.

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS

Salary Range: $70,238 - $82,928. Salary commensurate with education and experience.
