TEKsystems Sr. Virtual Desktop Engineer (Citrix) in New York, New York

Description
The Sr. Virtual Desktop Engineer is responsible for contributing to the strategy, design, and management of our virtualized desktop infrastructure across on-premises and cloud platforms. This role will also help guide our future direction by evaluating, recommending, and potentially implementing additional Citrix and end-user computing solutions to support our business objectives.
Responsibilities
• Design and Manage Citrix Infrastructure: Lead the architecture, design, and optimization of Citrix Virtual Apps and Desktops (CVAD), NetScaler, Machine Creation Services (MCS), and Provisioning Services (PVS) in both on-premises and cloud environments, ensuring scalability, performance, and security.
• Evaluate and Recommend Technologies: Assess additional end-user computing technologies such as Citrix App Layering, Workspace Environment Management (WEM), FSLogix, and User Profile Management (UPM) to support potential future deployments.
• Citrix Architecture Leadership: Serve as the lead of the Citrix Architecture team, ensuring high performance, reliability, and ongoing improvements to the Citrix environment.
• Cross-functional Collaboration: Work closely with IT, Network, Security, and Application teams to deliver integrated solutions, addressing complex technical issues related to virtual desktop and end-user computing.
• End-User Computing Support: Assist the team with escalated support and management of enterprise applications and software across multiple environments (e.g., Citrix, Windows, and mobile).
• Monitoring and Troubleshooting: Proactively monitor Citrix health and performance using Citrix Director and leverage PowerShell scripting to automate tasks and optimize configurations.
• Security and Compliance: Implement security best practices, including configuring MFA and TLS for Citrix Gateway and NetScaler; ensure all deployments comply with data protection standards.
• Documentation and Knowledge Sharing: Create comprehensive blueprints, technical documentation, and configuration records to support maintenance, knowledge transfer, and standardization.
• Incident and Problem Management: Participate in escalated incident resolution and problem management activities, leveraging Citrix, Microsoft, and scripting expertise to address issues.
• Project Leadership: Lead and participate in cross-functional projects to implement new technologies, update existing systems, and drive innovative solutions within the organization.
Technical Skills
• Citrix Technologies: Expert knowledge in Citrix Virtual Apps and Desktops (XenApp/XenDesktop), NetScaler (Citrix ADC), Citrix Gateway, MCS, PVS, and experience with Citrix Cloud deployments.
• Profile Management, Application Control, and User Personalization: Strong knowledge of profile and user personalization management, including experience with User Profile Management (UPM), Ivanti Workspace Control (formerly Appsense), and Ivanti Application Control for secure and customized user experiences.
• Familiarity with Supporting Technologies: Knowledge of additional Citrix technologies like Citrix App Layering, Workspace Environment Management (WEM), and FSLogix, as well as Azure Virtual Desktop (AVD) and Nerdio for managing AVD in hybrid or cloud-only environments.
• Microsoft Environment Expertise: Extensive experience with Windows Server, Active Directory, Group Policies, PowerShell, and scripting for automation.
• Third-Party Monitoring and Automation Tools: Experience with Citrix Director and Citrix Analytics for monitoring and optimizing virtualized environments.
• Cloud and Virtualization: Working knowledge of cloud platforms (Azure, AWS), VMware, and Hyper-V, with experience integrating Citrix environments with cloud and virtualized data centers.
• Scripting Skills: Proficient in PowerShell and other scripting languages (e.g., VBScript) for process automation and performance optimization.
Qualifications
• Education: Bachelor’s degree required.
• Experience: Minimum 7 years of experience managing and architecting large-scale Citrix environments with proven expertise in performance and reliability.
• Certifications: Citrix (e.g., CCP-V, CCE-V) and Microsoft certifications (e.g., Azure Administrator) highly regarded.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
Candidates need to be team players. Candidates need to be open to being on an on-call rotation and work after hours and weekends when needed for production issues.
The role can sit in either New York City, Washington DC, or Chicago. It is a hybrid of 3 days in the office and 2 days remote.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $155000.00 - $175000.00/yr.
The firm offers 20 PTO days for calendar years 1, 2, and 3. Calendar year 4 and after, they will be eligible for 25 PTO days. The offers a 401k and a defined contribution plan.
