Job Background/context:
Citi Research focuses on delivering high quality investment insights to clients on a global basis. The unit includes Equity and Fixed Income research, including Commodities, as well as Economic analysis; and has staff in 25 locations around the world. Citi Research is committed to maintaining the highest level of independence and objectivity in its proprietary products and insights.
Commodities Research focuses on market analysis of major energy, metals and agricultural commodities. Within energy commodities, the range of products includes oil, petroleum products, natural gas liquids (NGLs), natural gas/LNG, power including renewables, emissions and coal.
Responsibilities:
Citi Research focuses on delivering high quality investment insights to investors on a global basis with a high emphasis on independence and objectivity in its products and insights
Conduct research related to the US and global power and gas markets as part of the global commodities research team
Maintain and create commodity supply and demand models and other analytical tools, including quantitative energy models, such as pipeline and power stack models etc., along with analysis on renewable energy and the broader energy transition.
Work with research colleagues in commodities, fixed income strategy, economics and equities research to advance the commodities space in the firm’s markets and banking franchises and with sales, trading, and other divisions.
The unit produces regular written research, hosts investor meetings with company management teams, holds conference calls with industry consultants and regularly communicates with clients (both internal and external)
Research: Assist with the publication of earnings previews/recaps, initiation reports, deep dive notes as well other group products
Communication: Assist with client inquires and requests (internal and external)
Events: Assist with coordination of investor meetings (management meeting & field trips) and conference calls with consultants
Appropriately assess risk when business decisions are made, demonstrating particular consideration for the firm's reputation and safeguarding Citigroup, its clients and assets, by driving compliance with applicable laws, rules and regulations, adhering to Policy, applying sound ethical judgment regarding personal behavior, conduct and business practices, and escalating, managing and reporting control issues with transparency.
Qualifications:
2-5 years previous experience
MBA or graduate degree and/or CFA preferred.
Some experience or knowledge of financial markets, and preferably of commodity/energy markets
Quantitative/programming skills (e.g. Python, R etc.)
Statistics, Econometrics, with knowledge of machine learning preferred
Good knowledge of accounting and modelling with a focus
Methodical approach, strong organizational capabilities
Excellent inter-personal and writing skills
Attention to detail
Secure and maintain applicable licenses
Education:
- Bachelor’s/University degree or equivalent experience
