POSITION DETAILS

The Hunter College School of Social Work, currently renamed the Lois V. and Samuel J. Silberman School of Social Work at Hunter College, was established in 1958 and is the oldest and largest public school of social work in New York. As part of CUNY, our goal is to provide social work education of the highest quality at the lowest possible cost.

The mission of the Silberman School of Social Work promotes civic engagement and dedication to public services in the City of New York. Our student body, field agencies, and alumni are the primary social work workforce of the public human service departments and not-for-profit agencies in New York City.

The Enrollment Management and Recruitment Department at the Silberman School of Social Work seeks applications for an Assistant Director. The successful candidate will work closely with the Director to develop, implement and execute a comprehensive admissions strategy to attract and enroll qualified students.

In addition to the CUNY Title Overview, responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:

• Oversee annual recruitment planning, analyzes recruitment data and makes adjustments and recommendations accordingly.

• Creates and coordinates key outreach initiatives to increase conversion of the prospect pool.

• Assists with the development and distribution of recruiting materials and communications.

• Provides daily, weekly, and monthly reports detailing prospects and pre-applicants.

• Provide excellent customer service to prospective students and their families by responding to inquiries, scheduling campus visits and providing information about academic programs, student support services and policies.

• Communicate with the campus Webmaster regarding updates to and maintenance of the Admissions and Recruitment website pages.

• Identify, develop and maintain new geographic recruitment territories and participate in activities such as college fairs, information sessions and other events to attract and engage prospective students.

• Develop and maintain relationships with schools, community-based organizations and other institutions to increase awareness of Silberman and its programs.

• Support the processing of incoming student applications in a timely manner in accordance with the departmental guidelines and enrollment calendar.

• Evaluate applications and make admission decisions in accordance with established policies and procedures.

• Analyze admissions data to identify trends and opportunities for improvement.

• Prepare reports and presentations on admissions and recruitment activities for the Director.

• Perform day-to-day operations of the Office of Admissions and Recruitment to provide adequate coverage (front desk, ZOOM, phone and e-mail) especially when other staff are absent.

• Prepare and delivery of on and off-campus recruitment events and programs

• Represents the college by participating in and speaking at conferences, meetings and seminars, etc.

• Seeks opportunity for Partnership with Community based Organizations and College Pre-professional Programs.

• Establishes and maintains communication and cooperative working relationships with university administrators, faculty, staff and students’ organizations.

QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor’s Degree and four years related experience required.

The following qualifications are preferred:

• Master’s Degree in related field (MSW preferred)

• Minimum of four years of experience in Higher Education, particularly in Admissions, Enrollment Management, Recruitment or other Student Affairs Units.

• Previous experience in College Admissions, Student Affairs or other related fields.

• Familiarity with the Admissions Processes and Best Practices.

• Experience with Hobsons Connect or other computer-based CRM systems and a commitment to use technology and analytics in recruitment and marketing strategies.

• Experience working with CUNYFirst is highly preferred.

• Strong leadership, communication and interpersonal skills.

• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

• Ability to multi-task and prioritize tasks in a fast-paced environment.

• Flexibility to work evenings and weekends as needed.

• Valid driver’s license and/or access to reliable transportation for recruitment events.

• Evenings and occasional weekends required.

CUNY TITLE OVERVIEW

Supervises activities in an operational unit supporting Admissions and/or Enrollment.

  • Oversees staff activities; plans and monitors employee scheduling and coverage and coordinates training

  • Serves as liaison to one or more departments providing student support services, such as Financial Aid

  • Coordinates selection process activities such as applications review, verification of information, and timely forwarding of data to other CUNY areas

  • Coordinates mailings and other communications

  • Monitors activity and reports on both transactions and outcomes

  • Completes projects to improve services and enhance productivity and cost-effectiveness

  • Performs related duties as assigned.

Salary commensurate with education and experience, within approved range ($72,667 - $86,645).
