Job Description

The NYC Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) enriches the environment and protects public health for all New Yorkers by providing 1.1 billion gallons of high-quality drinking water, managing wastewater and stormwater, and reducing air, noise, and hazardous materials pollution. DEP is the largest combined municipal water and wastewater utility in the country, with nearly 6,000 employees. DEP's water supply system is comprised of 19 reservoirs and 3 controlled lakes throughout the system’s 2,000 square mile watershed that extends 125 miles north and west of the City.

Facilities Management and Construction is responsible for the management of DEP facilities support services including long and short term facilities management and planning, space management, facility capital project management, facility repairs and alterations utilizing in-house staff and/or contract services, environmental health and safety (EHS) Emergency Action Plan (EAP) facility training, ATF site survey inspections, calculations, diagram drawings, specification reviews/interpretations and report writing.

As a part of the Real Estate and Space Planning Unit the selected candidate will prepare, develop and/or review drawings, plans and interpretive detail sketches or layouts, using AutoCAD and various technologies related to architectural plans for the construction and remodeling of DEP structures and installations. The candidate will also be responsible for reviewing, monitoring, and evaluating existing technical information in files; evaluating and researching specific problematic information related to environmental health and safety concerns, metric reporting, record keeping and filing records. Other responsibilities may include data entry, correspondence with vendors, calculating cost estimates and related tasks.

Qualifications

Candidates must be currently enrolled in a graduate degree program in an accredited college, university or law school.
