Boehringer Ingelheim Medical Director NEW Africa in New Cairo, Egypt

THE POSITION

We are seeking a dynamic Medical Director to lead the medical organization for the NEW (North East and West) Africa region and provide governance for all functions related to Medicine (Medical Affairs, Pharmacovigilance and Patient Safety, Regulatory Affairs). The Medical Director ensures that medical and regulatory functions for all Human Pharma products are aligned with local business priorities and customer needs, local laws and regulations as well as with regional and global strategies, and in compliance with GCP (Good Clinical Practice), Corporate policies, guidelines and SOPs.

The Medical Director functions as an integral member of the local, regional and global organization having full responsibility of the OPU medical and regulatory budget. The job holder has final responsibility for health care compliance in the affiliate and chairs the grants and donation committee. The Medical Director is the local organization‘s scientific representative with local authorities and the OPU scientific spokesperson.

The Medical Director will be based in Cairo, Egypt and will report to the General Manager/ Head of Human Pharma of NEW Africa with matrix reporting to the Regional Medical Director.

TASKS & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provides strategic medical and regulatory expertise and input to the regional business.

  • Actively participates in business reviews, P&L exercise, LTF forecasts and patient based forecast exercises

  • Ensure compliant and appropriate procedures are adopted for publications, launch readiness plans, pipeline planning, etc.

  • Provide advocacy support in line with local regulations for all internal and external engagements

  • Ensure appropriate procedures are in place for the conduct of PMS, IIIb/IV trials, EAP/IIS activities and external collaboration projects

  • Ensure optimal information exchange between the OPU, regional and global Medicine teams.

  • Support local regulatory strategies for successful product registration and maintenance.

  • Ensure an adequate regional structure for Pharmacovigilance and Patient Safety is in place and that all internal and external obligations are adhered to.

  • Ensure adherence to Boehringer Ingelheim’s compliance, international and local compliance and legislation rules in all areas of Medicine of the OPU.

  • Support the local clinical operations strategy

  • Lead and coach the medical team while ensuring their continuous development and growth.

REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor Degree of Medicine or Pharmacy; A specialization/PhD is a plus.

  • Minimum 5 years’ experience within Medical and Commercial in a multi-national organization.

  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in people management.

  • Excellent communication, motivational, and managerial skills.

  • Analytical and critical thinking skills with ability to make decisions, solve problems and evaluate results to choose the best solutions.

  • Effective communicator with ability to build and maintain relationships & influence others.

  • Proficiency in English and Arabic; Fluency in French is a plus.

  • Strategic thinking, setting clear direction for the business and driving excellence in execution.
