Your Opportunity
Stantec is seeking a mid to senior level Environmental Planner to join our Environmental Services Practice to support our work in the Eastern Sierra and western Nevada. The position is to be based out of our Bishop, Zephyr Cove, Reno, or Nevada City ; geographic alignment with other Stantec offices will be considered based on experience. We are looking for an individual who is excited about the opportunity to support the growth of our Sierra Nevada, Tahoe, and Eastern Sierra presence by supporting business development and our planning and permitting practice.

Your Key Responsibilities
Provide environmental and biological resource permitting expertise for local, regional, state, federal, private, and non-profit clients.
Provide permit strategies with measures to ensure environmental compliance and meet client objectives and schedules.
Prepare draft agency permit applications and coordinate all resource reviews required for agency permits and notifications.
Coordinate with Stantec, subcontractor, and client staff to ensure surveys and monitoring are conducted according to client guidance and all safety requirements.
Lead research and compilation of data and information for project environmental compliance in collaboration with technical specialists.
Lead the preparation of technical reports, plans, and permit applications in collaboration with a team.
Provide training and oversight for entry/junior level Stantec team members.
Support business development with a focus of the Sierra Nevada through the building professional relationships, preparation of responses to proposal solicitations and participation in outreach efforts.
Preparation of CEQA and NEPA documents for a variety of projects in Northern California, with focus on the Sierra foothills, Tahoe, and Eastern Sierra regions.
This position requires attention to details, strong skills as a self-starter, and an ability to participate in multiple projects simultaneously, and an ability to work in a fast-paced environment. Experience within electric and/or gas utility projects is preferred.
Proficiency with MS Excel is a plus. Understanding preparation of the release to construction (RTC) process for clients and ability to direct and work with multiple disciplines is preferred. This role will also include support to project management teams on dynamic projects.
Qualifications
Your Capabilities and Credentials
Demonstrated experience obtaining local, state and/or federal environmental regulatory permits (e.g., 401/404/1600).
Proven experience with the requirements of California Department of Fish and Wildlife Lake and Streambed Alteration Agreements.
CEQA and NEPA compliance experience (including the preparation of at least a CEQA Initial Study or a NEPA Environmental Assessment).
Author of technical sections of CEQA and NEPA documents.
Previous experience in land use, environmental planning and permitting.
Experience working with federal and state land management agencies.
Excellent oral and written communication skills.
Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook.
Ability to work well independently and with a diverse, multi-disciplinary team in a fast-paced, team-oriented work environment.
Strong time management and follow-through skills, with the ability to simultaneously work on multiple tasks/projects and meet project deadlines.
Self-motivated with strong initiative.
Education and Experience
BA/BS degree in Environmental Science, Biology, Urban, Regional or Environmental Land Use Planning, Environmental Science, Environmental Studies, or a related field.
5- 8 minimum years of environmental planning and permitting experience as a land use or environmental planner, biologist, environmental scientist, or similar.
NEPA and CEQA experience
CWA 404/401 permitting
Preferred
Master’s degree in Biology, Urban, Regional or Environmental Land Use Planning, Environmental Science, Environmental Studies or a related field.
Ability to identify opportunities and build relationships with clients
Experience supporting business development efforts.
Typical office environment working with computers and remaining sedentary for long periods of time. Field work may include exposure to the elements including inclement weather. Ability to lift and move items and equipment up to 50 lbs.

Salary Range(s):
- CA Other Areas $103,800 - CA Other Areas $155,800 Min/Max Pay Range for postings located in CA (SF Area includes SF, SJS & WLC)
The final agreed upon compensation is based on individual education, qualifications, experience, and work location. At Stantec certain roles are bonus eligible.
