Position Description
The Customer Service Field Representative Senior investigates and recommends appropriate course of action on a variety of complaints and/or service requests from the public involving various services and functions of Waste Services Departments. The incumbent performs related duties as required.
Waste Services is responsible for weekly curbside waste and every other week curbside recycling collection for over 143,000 customers in the urban services district as well as collection of over 200 public litter baskets in the downtown Nashville corridor. The division also operates four convenience centers where residents of Davidson County can bring waste, recycling, bulk items, food waste, household hazardous waste, and other items for recycling or disposal and eight recycling drop-off locations available to residents who do not qualify for curbside recycling collection.
Waste Services currently employs staff members working in collection, administration, customer service, education, landfill engineering, development review, and zero waste.
Typical Duties
Operates in all areas of convenience center work.
Operates customer receipt system.
Verifies county residency.
Enters customer information into database.
Determines cubic yardage of trash.
Receives payment and writes receipt.
Maintains and stocks supplies.
Dispatches roll off trucks.
Determines which drop off centers need pick- ups.
Determines which truck needs to go to transfer station.
Serves as receptionist at primary point of contact for the center.
Places, answers and routes telephone calls.
Forwards information to proper person.
Keeps records of calls as needed.
May receive and direct visitors.
Operates Bobcat and similar equipment.
Uses wheel loader to lift heavy items.
Operates tire de-rimmer.
May operate Hazardous Waste drop off area.
Separates hazardous materials into proper areas for pickup and places hazardous materials in proper storage.
Collects and disposes of trash; Cleans convenience center;
Sweeps around roll- off containers.
Mows grass at convenience center.
Trains less senior employees.
Minimum Qualifications
High School Diploma or equivalent and three (3) years experience in a recycling center, customer service and/or responding to customer complaints/calls.
For this specific position, substitution will not be considered

Note: Per Metro Ordinance No. SO94-1078. All employees of the Metropolitan Government shall be residents of the State of Tennessee or become residents of the state within six (6) months of employment as a prerequisite to employment with the Metropolitan Government..
