Job Title: Mechanical Design EngineerJob Description

We are looking for an engineer responsible for all aspects of mechanical engineering, including system designs, specifications, production, and field observations for a wide variety of project types such as commercial, residential, industrial, healthcare, and educational. This role offers a dynamic work environment with diverse tasks and projects.

Responsibilities

  • Perform calculations to determine heating and cooling loads and the energy requirements for buildings.

  • Collaborate with vendors who sell mechanical HVAC equipment to discuss options, limitations, and product integration.

  • Review project drawings for existing buildings and create new construction documents using AutoCAD and Revit.

  • Engage in internal meetings and communications with engineers and architects to discuss projects and current assignments.

  • Run simulations of energy performance and load calculations to predict energy requirements for building temperature and humidity stability.

  • Predict temperature and pressure inside pipes and ducts using computer simulations.

Essential Skills

  • Proficiency in AutoCAD and Revit.

  • Experience in mechanical design and HVAC systems.

  • 3-5+ years of experience in mechanical engineering.

  • Bachelor of Science degree in a relevant field from an ABET-accredited program.

  • Strong attention to detail and self-motivation.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Work Environment

Employee-owned company with a long-standing track record of success. The multidisciplinary engineering firm provides mechanical, electrical, plumbing, structural, curtain wall, and civil services. The MEP team is casual and laid-back, with an open-door policy and a supportive team environment. The dress code is business casual. Work hours are from 7:30 AM to 5:30 PM Monday through Thursday, with a half-day on Fridays from 7:30 AM to Noon. The hybrid work environment includes three days in the office and two days working from home, with flexibility. Training will take place in Naperville, with the option for future work primarily out of the downtown Chicago office. Current projects focus on TI improvements, community developments, mixed-use, and commercial buildings, with 80% of work in AutoCAD and 20% in Revit.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $38.46 - $42.07/hr.
