EXECUTIVE SUMMARY:

The associate principal is to promote the highest level of student achievement and performance by providing personal and educational leadership for all staff and students.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Under general supervision of the Superintendent, the Associate Principal performs the following responsibilities within the overarching framework of the Mount Pleasant Community School District's mission and vision.

Provide educational leadership within the school's education community

  • Ensure that student learning is the central focus for the school.
  • Ensure program planning and evaluation occurs.
  • Help staff to achievable professional goals.
  • Facilitate co-operative approaches to learning, teaching and evaluation.
  • Actively work toward the development of a shared vision for the school.
  • Implement the school's strategic plan.

Manage and develop the school culture.

  • Develop schools where students feel safe, valued, relaxed and committed to learning.
  • Maintain a school where positive reinforcement is the norm.
  • Ensure the school is an orderly place where resources and facilities are well managed.
  • Establish and maintain a climate where all individuals are treated with dignity and respect.
  • Ensures there is a culture of high expectations for self, students, and staff.

Take responsibility for the school communication networks.

  • Establish and maintain an effective communication network.
  • Confirm that information is exchanged within the school community.
  • Ensure the communication network is used to build trust and reflect the school culture.
  • Ensure staff is consulted on matters that concern them.

Exercise leadership role in managing relationships and in representing the school.

  • Be an identifiable leader of the school's community.
  • To represent the school and its interest locally and statewide.
  • Facilitate the transmission of new knowledge to the school's community.
  • Foster relationships between the school and the community.
  • Demonstrate an understanding of and is responsive to the diverse concerns and needs of students, parents, staff, board, and community.
  • Communicates effectively both orally and in writing to a range of audiences.
  • Manages conflict effectively and actively works to achieve solutions.
  • Represents the school and acts to achieve its mission.

The associate principal will reflect on personal performance and demonstrate a commitment to on-going learning in order to improve performance.
