About LPSD

We design and manufacture Cat C27, C32, 3400, 3500, C175, 3600 and C280 platforms; Perkins 4000 series and 5000 series platforms and MWM gas engine platforms, drivetrains and engine system components.

Through our global organization, we design and manufacture the most comprehensive lineup of large diesel and natural gas engines in the industry, as well as engine components and powertrains. The large engine product portfolio includes Cat, Perkins and MWM branded products. Applications include Cat machines, electric power generation, marine, oil & gas, industrial and locomotive. 

Global Thermal Management Solutions (GTMS) is the enterprise engineering center of excellence for engine, machine, genset, locomotive cooling design including developing systems for electrification mobile and stationary energy equipment.

The GTMS engineering fellow is the owner of the electrification component and system product and technology strategy, intellectual property development, and product development excellence. Key responsibilities are: Aligning the product strategy with customer needs, leading New Technology Introduction (NTI) projects, defining simulation tool, software and controls requirements, providing coaching and oversight to ensure rigorous product development standards are met throughout the organization, and creating opportunities and environment for learning and continuous improvement. This role is a member of the leadership team reporting directly to the Senior Product Manager.

What you will do:

  • Lead Global Electrification Technology Strategy for Machine, Mobile Equipment, and Stationary Energy including but not limited to define and manage electrification thermal management portfolio and configuration strategy, lead advanced technology identification, evaluation, selection and project initiation through STLF/NTI process; active in learning the advancements of Industry and competitive technology, establishing simulation tool, validation and internal test lab needs, strategy and supporting development. Ensure alignment with annual goals and budget.

  • Provides direction and engineering support for complex design and development of technologies, components, systems, products, electrical integration, software and controls and services within the Global Thermal Management Solutions (GTMS) with teams in US, China and India.

  • Defend and grow the GTMS intellectual property as it relates to system and component design (mechanical and electrical), software and controls, INF/Patent review, approval and tracking, supplier MDA and program description, act as liaison between supplier and caterpillar legal to align on terms and conditions and provide guidance on aftermarket strategy for eTMS.

  • Work closely with component and systems team in global supplier and process partner collaboration in product development. Incumbent will identify necessary process partner technology and resources to support GTMS programs, will pursue alignment on product strategy, technology selection, industry standards and regulations for each L4, L5, L6 application. Process partners include Machine, Mobile Equipment, HV Integration, Battery, Fuel Cell product teams, software and controls, electrical components, Enterprise Product Compliance (Refrigerants), Fluids Engineering (Coolant).

  • Motivate and develop the product engineering team, directing learning and development programs for all engineering staff

  • Actively engage in current product activities to ensure safety, quality, and performance needs are met.

  • Serve as a member of senior management and contribute to decision-making processes for the company's business.

Requirements:

  • Extensive experience in fluids engineering, component design, and development through multiple New Technology Introduction (NTI) and New Product Introduction (NPI) programs. Demonstrated achievement in product innovation, product development excellence, and engineering leadership.

  • Risk Management : Knowledge of processes, tools, and techniques for assessing and controlling an organization's exposure to risks of various kinds; ability to apply knowledge of risk management appropriately to diverse situations.

  • Collaboration : Knowledge of how to lead and support cross-functional teams and the ability to work with a variety of individuals and groups in a constructive and collaborative manner.

  • Problem Solving : Knowledge of approaches, tools, and techniques for recognizing, anticipating, and resolving product, process, operational, and organizational problems; ability to apply knowledge of problem solving appropriately to diverse situations. Demonstrates intellectual curiosity.

  • Decision Making and Critical Thinking : Knowledge of the decision-making process and associated tools and techniques; ability to accurately analyze situations and reach productive decisions based on informed judgment.

  • Sustainability : Knowledge of sustainability strategies; ability to integrate sustainability into the overall business strategy of the organization to build a sustainable business model.

  • Education Requirements : 4-year Engineering degree

Top candidates will also have:

  • Significant fluids engineering product and process knowledge

  • Engine and Machine system performance development experience

  • Structural design / validation experience

  • Electrical Integration, software and controls, experience

Summary Pay Range:

$156,000.00 - $234,000.00

Compensation and benefits offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, job level, market location, job-related knowledge, skills, individual performance and experience. Please note that salary is only one component of total compensation at Caterpillar.
