rPosting Context Statement:
r
The northern Idaho cropping systems program conducts field trials to evaluate varieties of small grains, grain legumes, research to solve problems, and support the agricultural industry in the region. Current research focuses include agronomic studies on fall seeded crops, solutions to soil acidification, crop rotation, and the epidemiology and disease management of emerging diseases. Testing trials and research trials are conducted at multiple locations throughout northern Idaho and portions of eastern Washington (grain legumes only). The program has a significant presence in many areas across the region. Lab and greenhouse activities are conducted during late fall and winter months to support field research and extension activities.
rrPosition Overview:
r
Performs research activities and analysis, recording observations and measurements, and reports results. Participates in analyzing and preparing results for publication. Works under general supervision.
Duties may include:
- Prepare standard solutions for calibration and analyses
- Interpret test results and comparing with determined standards and limits
- Collect laboratory or field data
- Conduct research and analysis of scientific data
- Participate in research design discussions
- Perform literature reviews
- Prepare reports
- Compare data and historical records for trend verification
- Develop reference files, comparison charts, and graphs on research data
- Assist with site inspections and field oversight
- Have little or no supervisory responsibilities
- Other duties as assigned

- Collecting and reviewing scientific data
- Keeping complete and accurate records
- Working in a team environment
rrRequired Education:
r
- Bachelors Degree in Plant Science, Agricultural Science, Ag Systems Management, Crop Science, Soil Science, or Environmental Science
rrRequired Other:
r
- Must have or be able to obtain an Idaho commercial pesticide applicator license within two months of hire
- Drivers license and ability to meet UI requirements for driving university vehicles
- Willingness to travel within northern Idaho and neighboring regions, as well as working extra hours when required
rrAdditional Preferred:
r
- One year of agricultural research experience
- Experience managing and collecting data from field-based agronomic experiments or variety trials
- Experience working with small plot equipment or other farm machinery
- Sustained research productivity, technical competence, and technical writing skills
- Good interpersonal and communication skills
- Experience supervising staff and students
- Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot problems
- Experience using computer software and applications for word processing, email, and data organization
rrPhysical Requirements & Working Conditions:

- May be required to work with toxic, volatile and corrosive chemicals and/or carcinogenic substances
- May be required to work in adverse environmental conditions (dusty, hot, or cold conditions outdoors)
- Ability to lift, carry or otherwise move objects weighing up to 50 lbs
