The Department of Chemical and Biological Engineering at the University of Idaho invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track or tenured position at Assistant or Associate Professor level. Rank and tenure are negotiable based on how the candidate meets the criteria outlined in the college and department bylaws.
We are seeking a dynamic and innovative researcher whose work focuses on one of the following key topics with applications in broader agricultural areas.
- Bioremediation
- Synthetic Biology
- Microbiome Engineering
- Biosensors
The successful candidate will contribute to advancing knowledge in biological engineering through research, teaching, and service. We are particularly interested in individuals who will develop externally funded research programs that address critical challenges in areas such as health, sustainable energy, and environmental engineering. The candidate will also have the opportunity to interface with the Deep Soil Ecotron - a \$20M facility aimed at better understanding the role deep soil plays across multiple systems. This one-of-a-kind facility houses state-of-the-art monitoring technology, serving as an ideal testbed for novel soil biophysical and biological sensor development. This is an excellent opportunity for a scholar who is passionate about interdisciplinary research, fostering collaboration, and mentoring the next generation of engineers.

rMinimum Education/Degree Required:
rListed degree qualification is required at time of hire.
rrRequired Qualifications:

- Ph.D. in Agricultural Engineering, Biological Engineering, Biosystems Engineering, Bioengineering, Chemical Engineering, or related field.
- Experience researching and disseminating by peer-reviewed publications and potential for securing external funding.
- Experience with teaching and student mentoring.
- Experience working in a collaborative, interdisciplinary environment.
- Applicants for associate professor level must hold current associate professor title or have equivalent experience.
- Currently hold or have the ability to obtain a Professional Engineer license in the state of Idaho within five years of appointment.

- Expertise in one or more of the following areas:
- Bioremediation: Specialization in the design of systems to remove or neutralize environm ental contaminants using biological processes.
- Synthetic Biology: Focus on developing synthetic biological systems for renewable energy, carbon capture, and bio-chemical production.
- Microbiome Engineering: Research involving the manipulation of microbiomes to improve health, agriculture, or environmental outcomes.
- Biosensors: Expertise in the development of biosensors for applications related to animal and plant health, biosecurity, environmental monitoring, or industrial processes.
- Commitment to excellence in teaching and student mentoring.
- Have excellent communication skills, both oral and written
