Position will demonstrate appreciation of cultural diversity and the ability to work effectively with people from a wide variety of backgrounds, cultures, and experience. Job Duties A. General Operations Percent Time 45% Balance the register cash drawer and stamps daily. Keep track of stamps needed to purchase for resale. Prepare a weekly deposit and the month end billing to be submitted to the business office. Manages the postal codes and accounts in the Pitney Bowes postage meter. Assists in preparing and tracking data of packages from each carrier. Perform day-to-day operations including computer data search and data entry. Assists in managing unclaimed parcels and mail. Prepare and monitor student box lists, forwarding lists, and summer box lists. Assist with preparation of special mailing paperwork for check and distribution. Customer service duties including distributing packages, selling stamps, mailing envelopes and boxes and providing special mail services such as certify and ensure mail, calculate and collect postage and answer questions about all postal regulations and service for incoming and outgoing mail. Retrieve customer signatures for registered, certified, and insured mail. Work with USPS, UPS, and FEDEX software, cash register, and a postage meter. B. Distribute and Deliver Mail and Packages Percent Time 45% Receive, sort and distribute U.S. mail for all departments of the University of Minnesota Morris campus, WCROC and all students. Lifting, carrying and moving parcels up to 50lbs. Provide mail service for incoming and outgoing mail. Load and unload mail from mail processing center. Prepare incoming and outgoing mail for distribution at post office and mail processing centers. Distribute mail by climbing stairs carrying a bag of mail and totes of parcels. Must be on their feet for up to four hours at a time. Sort and distribute on-campus mail and parcels to all departments. Sort student mail, check for box numbers and distribute to post office boxes daily. Duties include lifting, climbing stairs, carrying and moving packages up to a minimum of 50lbs. Handle freight from USPS, UPS, FEDEX, and SPEEDEE. Sign in, sort, post, deliver or post for pick up. Duties include delivering packages up to 50lbs., lifting, climbing stairs, carrying and moving packages. Sorting packages that may require heavy lifting, up to 50lbs. Communicate with department/person for pickup of parcels weighing more than 50lbs. Track and manage unclaimed parcels. Knowledge of UPS, FEDEX, and USPS software to provide outgoing parcel service. C. Assist Duplicating Services Percent Time 10% Assist with processing copy center customer orders. Prepare promotional materials, copy, scan, fax, laminate, fold, hole punch, staple, and collate. Other duties as assigned Incumbents may serve as lead workers (e.g., assign, schedule, direct work) of University staff but are not PERLA supervisors. Incumbents may supervise student employees. The hourly rate for this position is $21.69 Qualifications Required Qualifications: High School Diploma/GED and two years of related office and administrative experience. Training/education may be substituted for some of the years of experience. Computer experience required. Post office mail knowledge/skills may be required. Excellent customer service skills are required to meet all staff, faculty, student and visitor's demands. Must be able to work independently, friendly and cooperatively with co-workers. Physical Qualifications: Must be able to lift/carry up to a minimum of 50lbs., climb stairs, able to stand up to 8 hours at a time, sort, lift, and transfer heavy packages. Will need to take freight (up to 50lbs.) to campus departments. Be able to walk up to two hours making campus deliveries.
