This position is responsible for leading the business Internal Control over Financial Reporting (ICFR) and Service Organization Control (SOC) governance processes within the UHG Internal Audit and Advisory Services (IAAS) team. This position guides and administers the scoping, documentation, and certification of financial reporting controls supporting SEC, statutory, and customer SOC reporting for various enterprise entities. This role supports the creation of ICFR methodology, training and the implementation of ICFR process improvements that drive operational efficiency, quality and financial performance. In addition, the position regularly interacts with external auditors and regulatory examiners, as well as executive management of the organization.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Specific responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Lead financial statement scoping to determine focus of annual ICFR program for Sarbanes Oxley (SOX), Model Audit Rule (MAR), FDIC Improvement Act (FDICIA), and India Companies Act (INCA).

  • Project manage the completion of ICFR and SOC testing collaboratively with the UHG IAAS team to ensure timely completion in adherence with required customer SOC report issuance dates and financial filings.

  • Champion and cultivate the ICFR culture within the business by developing relationships with executives to understand the business and relevant key controls, educating management on ICFR and SOC requirements and providing guidance to enhance the control environment.

  • Manage and develop a team of audit professionals by providing leadership, vision and direction to motivate others to take actions that support and reflect the core values and desired future state of IAAS.

  • Evaluate and document ICFR and SOC deficiency conclusions.

  • Communicate status and results of ICFR and SOC testing with senior management, external auditors, and regulatory stakeholders.

  • Oversee regulatory examination requests.

  • Create and facilitate training to internal testing teams on a broad range of ICFR topics.

  • Participate on special projects undertaken by the department and/or the Company.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree

  • Relevant assurance certification (e.g., CPA)

  • 8+ years of relevant business ICFR experience including public accounting experience

  • Solid understanding of risks and controls and their practical application

  • Demonstrated capability of building strong, high performing teams

  • Demonstrated capability to manage a variety of differing priorities and commitments

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with SOC report exam testing and/or coordination

  • Health insurance or related insurance experience

  • Experience working with data analytics and data visualization tools

  • Solid oral and written communication skills
