Salary Range: $62,755 to $72,100

JOB SUMMARY
The Instructional Technologist plays a pivotal role in supporting faculty, students, and staff in effectively integrating instructional technology into teaching and learning. Reporting to the Director of Instructional Technology and working alongside the Canvas LMS Administrator, this position is responsible for leading incident management of academic technology support, managing specific systems in the academic technology stack, responding to service requests, and supporting emerging instructional technologies with a particular emphasis on AI literacy and innovation.
The role fosters faculty engagement by co-designing AI-enhanced learning experiences, developing and delivering workshops on AI literacy, and providing individualized consultation on instructional technology strategies. Additionally, the Instructional Technologist collaborates with instructional designers, faculty, students, and administrative departments to explore innovative ways to integrate AI and digital tools into curricula while maintaining a commitment to pedagogical effectiveness, accessibility, and student success.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Service Delivery and Faculty Support (30%)
Maintain and enhance ticket management and academic technology support for faculty, staff, and students
Provide faculty consultations on integrating instructional technology and AI tools into teaching and learning
Design and facilitate workshops on AI literacy that align with the instructional technology skill development program, the guidelines of the AI Institute for the Common Good and incorporate best practices in instructional technology and innovative teaching methodologies
Develop AI-enhanced response templates and processes to improve efficiency in addressing common instructional technology questions and requests
Support faculty in troubleshooting LMS-related issues and exploring integrations with AI-powered educational tools
AI Literacy and Pedagogical Innovation (30%)
Lead targeted initiatives to integrate AI tools and platforms into teaching and learning environments, focusing on high-impact faculty workshops and one-on-one coaching
Collaborate with instructional designers to develop AI-enhanced learning activities and personalized learning solutions, prioritizing projects with the greatest potential impact
Research strategic AI technologies for pedagogical effectiveness, focusing on a select number of tools each year, and provide recommendations for their adoption
Develop and share high-impact case studies on AI implementation in teaching and learning, emphasizing ethical and accessible use
Conduct strategic consultations with faculty on effective use of AI tools in course design and delivery, addressing key concerns around data privacy and algorithmic bias
System Administration and Academic Technology Management (20%)
Maintain and support assigned instructional technology platforms
Participate in, and coordinate as appropriate, testing and implementation of emerging instructional technologies, including AI-powered educational tools
Work with the Information Security, Institutional Data, and Application & Cloud teams to ensure secure, scalable, and effective implementation of technology solutions
Establish and manage R&D testing environment(s) for instructional technology pilots
Cross-functional Collaboration and Outreach (15%)
Partner with faculty, students, and administrators to assess instructional technology needs and develop tailored solutions, leveraging AI wherever practical
Work closely with instructional designers, research teams, and academic departments to align technology solutions with institutional goals
Collaborate with the Information Security, Institutional Data, and Application & Cloud teams to ensure alignment between research, development, and production environments
Facilitate knowledge transfer and develop resources to support campus-wide instructional technology initiatives
Professional Development and Research (5%)
Stay current with emerging trends in AI, instructional technology, and pedagogy through research, professional development, and industry conferences
Contribute to institutional knowledge by documenting and sharing best practices specifically focused on the integration of AI within instructional technology. This includes exploring how AI can enhance teaching methodologies and learning outcomes
Participate in relevant higher education technology networks and represent the institution in external forums when appropriate
QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in education technology, computer science, information technology or a related field
Three years of experience with instructional design, AI in education, and/or faculty development
Strong background in training, particularly in digital pedagogies and AI literacy
Knowledge of LMS administration and instructional technology ecosystems
An equivalent combination of education and experience from which comparable skills have been acquired may be substituted.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master’s degree in education technology, computer science, information technology or a related field
