Position Summary

This position will be responsible for supporting Kraus-Anderson Construction Company in its role as a general contractor and a construction manager on commercial construction projects located primarily in Minnesota and the upper Midwest. The position might also include occasional representation of other entities in the Kraus-Anderson family of businesses involved in real estate acquisitions, sales, leasing, development, and financing.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Direct responsibility for handling a wide variety of matters for Kraus-Anderson Construction Company

  • Work with senior company management and construction project managers in reviewing, drafting, and negotiating construction contracts with project owners

  • Draft and revise the Company’s template forms of contracts with project owners and subcontractors

  • Review and provide advice regarding requested changes to the Company’s subcontract forms

  • Review and negotiate third-party contract forms

  • Review and provide guidance on governmental requirements, contractual rights and obligations, and insurance issues

  • Work with senior company management, construction project managers, outside counsel and insurers in the resolution of disputes

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Juris Doctorate from an accredited law school

  • License to practice law in the state of Minnesota

  • Minimum of 5 years experience of practice in construction law

  • Demonstrated computer proficiency (MS Office – Word, Excel and Outlook)

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including ability to effectively communicate with internal colleagues and external customers

  • Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines, while maintaining a positive attitude and providing exemplary service

  • Ability to use time productively, maximize efficiency and meet challenging work goals

  • Ability to maintain compliance with all company policies and procedures

  • Ability to possess and maintain exceptional work ethic as well as uphold company values and demand the highest standard of conduct from self and others

Other:

  • Valid Driver's License and ability to maintain a satisfactory Motor Vehicle Record.

  • Travel when required

  • Must move and climb on a jobsite as necessary to review or inspect work on construction projects.
