The RoleThe successful candidate will have significant experience in diverse aspects of patent law practice, technical expertise in either computer science, chemical engineering, or electrical engineering, or related field. As the Company's IP attorney you must be adept at interacting with and advising both business executives and technical professionals. You will be part of a global in-house legal staff and can choose to be located at either our Bedford, MA, Houston, TX or Medina, MN offices. Our work is fast-paced, and your time management skills are essential, but you will enjoy thoughtful collaboration with colleagues who are changing the world. Your Impact Manage intellectual property matters critical to the Company's success, counsel senior Company business leaders, develop patent portfolio strategy, conduct trainings on patentability and invention disclosures, assist inventors in identifying patentable subject matter, draft patent applications, manage outside counsel budgets and performance, monitor for IP competitive intelligence, and perform due diligence in support of business transactions. Develop strategies to efficiently protect the Company's intellectual property assets (including commercial products, development candidates, research findings and other related subject matter), establish positive working relationships with the Company's Technology, Research and Development teams by acting as their advisor on a variety of IP related issues. Prepare and prosecute or oversee outside counsel in prosecuting worldwide patent applications, conduct patentability and freedom to operate assessments, and technology landscape searches. Lead IP due diligence, IP review and agreement negotiation support for the Company's business development activities, work collaboratively with other functions who seek IP related counsel. Develop and continually expand a thorough understanding of the Company's current and planned business activities, products, competitors, and markets and keep abreast of developing legal trends, laws and regulations. Draft and negotiate technology, development, and collaboration agreements. Execute projects in other practice areas as needed such as negotiation of commercial contracts, and counseling on regulatory matters relating to generative AI, data privacy, and cybersecurity. What You'll Need J.D. from an accredited law school. 5+ years' experience in sophisticated legal environment(s); Software technology company experience preferred. A Bachelor's degree in software development, chemical engineering or experience with industrial software products preferred. Member in good standing of a state bar association. Registration to practice before the United States Patent and Trademark Office. Demonstrate entrepreneurial thought and action.
