About the Job
In this role, the Dosimetrist, in collaboration with the radiation oncologist and medical physicist, will use critical thinking and problem-solving skills to develop, generate, and evaluate treatment plans using computer software and manual calculations based on prescribed target region and avoidance dose criteria. The dosimetrist may use a wide variety of patient imaging modalities registered to the planning images, which assists in the identification of physician delineated target structures and critical structures to be avoided.
What you'll do
Following the dose prescription specified by the radiation oncologist, plans a treatment technique and isodose distribution by means of computer and/or manual computations that will deliver a prescribed dose to a defined tumor volume. Methods of planning include both 2-D and 3-D conventional, IMRT, VMAT and SBRT. Transfers treatment plans, treatment parameters to record & verify system. Tasks consist of following treatment objectives, identifying patient anatomic and physical limitations in order to generate the best possible radiation treatment. Complete treatment plans accurately and in a timely manner based on complexity.
Properly manages simulation and diagnostic imaging in order to accurately identify and contour anatomy for the treatment planning purposes.
Assists in the planning of the production of molds, casts, and other immobilization devices while assisting and/or consulting during treatment simulation
Consults and communicates with the radiation therapist in the implementation of the treatment plan (correct use of immobilization devices, field arrangement, and other treatment parameters as needed).
Performs various quality assurance activities and maintains related documentation, including being an active participant in chart rounds.
Effectively communicates plan details with physicians and staff; able to offer alternative solutions
Teaches applied aspects of dosimetry to radiation therapy, dosimetry and other students rotating through the department. Assists in clinical research for the development and implementation of new techniques.
Performs calculations for the accurate delivery of the prescribed dose, documents all pertinent information in the patient record, and verifies the accuracy of all calculations by an approved method

Minimum Required:
Bachelor's Degree
Specify Degree(s): Medical Dosimetry
Less than one year of previous job-related experience
Completion of the training in Medical Dosimetry involves hands on training in creation of treatment plans
Preferred:
- Master's Degree
Licensure/Certifications
Required:
CPR (Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation) from the American Heart Association only
