Scope - Under the direction of the Procurement Category Manager, the Buyer must be able to work in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment to ensure that assigned suppliers exceed S&W standards for quality, delivery and price. The buyer will maintain purchase orders and delivery schedule on the company ERP system. The job requires daily interaction with suppliers assigned to specific commodity groups to resolve any issue affecting S&W supply chain efficiency and reliability. Buyers will quote parts and services, analyze quotes and make recommendation to award business. The buyer will take action with suppliers to maintain appropriate levels of safety stock, minimize order quantities and ensure quoted lead times are adhered to.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Manages day to day performance of a group of suppliers
Manage purchase orders to maintain optimal inventory levels
Determine proper MRP procurement parameters and set the system to manage inventory
Maintain prices
Send RFP RFQ to Approved suppliers
Understand and manages supplier capacity
Resolve invoice discrepancies and paperwork errors
Report delivery status, issues and propose solutions
Certification/refresher courses as needed
Work closely with the Planning group to ensure timely availability of existing and new products and components.
Actively interact with:
Internal: Procurement, Manufacturing Management, Planners, Engineers, Sales and Marketing, Supply Chain Senior Management, Quality Manager, Receiving Personnel and Management, Accounting Personnel
External: Suppliers Personnel and Management
Up to 10% Travel is required
Qualifications:
Experience, Competencies and Education
Bachelor's degree in related field is preferred
5-10 years of experience buying plastics, polymer, resin is required
Desired skills in working with MRP systems: Lead Time, MOQ, Exceptions. A firm understanding of basic Math, have excellent follow through practices and utilize excellent communication skills; both verbal and written.
Intermediate to Advance skills using Microsoft Excel Worksheets and Database.
Have previous experience in Purchase order management, writing Request for Proposal (RFP) and Request for Quotation (RFQ) and priority management.
Demonstrate good Negotiation, Convincing, and Assertiveness Skills
Must have worked in Supply Chain, Finance or Manufacturing in plant and experience working as a buyer.
Demonstrate and practice Personal Qualities in: Understand business implications of supplier actions
Hands on, not afraid to walk through the plant to resolve issues
Takes ownership of job function

Can bring people together around a table to resolve a problem
Ambitious, desire to learn and grow
Ethical, Honest, Accurate, precise, Attention to detail and is comfortable with some degree of routine

Physical Demands:

Work Environment and Personal Protective Equipment:
Within any of our facilities, employees may be exposed to manufacturing noise, airborne liquid chemicals, fine particulate dust, ambient temperatures, and industrial lighting. Work environment is similar to most manufacturing and distribution operations. May be exposed to excessive noise, temperatures, hazards associated with working around moving machinery, work in confined quarters, exposure to vibrations and shop lighting, continuous exposure to hot temperatures, may be humid, odors, dust, continuous exposure to mechanical hazards, and occasional exposure to chemical hazards.
The following Personal Protective Equipment is required:
Safety glasses with side shields and hearing protection required when on manufacturing floor
The use of additional personal protective equipment (PPE) may be required when a job task(s) is being completed in or around your assigned department or in another department, this includes safety eyewear, hearing protection, and safety footwear.
