Essential Responsibilities

  • Recognized technical expert in nuclear human factors engineering spanning the entirety of the plant including components or component systems. Able to provide consultation to management, all design organizations, and supplier organizations.

  • Remains cognizant of state-of-the-art human factors engineering.

  • Provides technical leadership in design reviews, task force, industrial committees, and design boards as necessary.

  • Provide technical consultation to assigned organization and to other internal and supplier engineering organizations.

  • Enhance technical excellence in assigned design organizations.

  • Identify and recommend where improvements in knowledge of the specific discipline are needed or where technical training is needed.

  • Establish a total quality management strategy to assure early involvement on manufacturing process/producibility matters.

  • Provide leadership to help focus and integrate new technology smoothly into production.

  • Suggest areas where technology advancements are needed and recommend approaches/programs to pursue.

  • Lead/support study teams to address top problems within the organization or projects in focused technical areas.

  • Consult with and support the Chief Engineer’s Office in the execution of technical goals of the office.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science in Human Factors or Industrial Engineering, or equivalent 4-year degree in a related technical discipline.

  • At least 8 additional years of experience in an engineering capacity.

  • Minimum 15 years of human factors experience in a high-hazard, safety-centric industry (e.g., energy, aviation, medical, automotive) with at least 5 years in the nuclear industry.

Eligibility Requirements

  • This position will require working onsite 2 days a week in Markham, ON.

Desired Characteristics

  • M.S. or Ph.D. degree in Human Factors, Industrial Engineering or equivalent.

  • Registered Professional Engineer in the United States or Canada.

  • Strong oral and written communication skills.

  • Strong interpersonal and leadership skills.

  • Leadership to pursue correct engineering process in adverse conditions.

  • Able to interface effectively with all levels of the organization.

  • Problem solving skills.

  • Lean training/experience.

  • Experience as a reactor operator.

  • Significant experience with international nuclear regulatory guidelines and related standards and their committees.
