Director of Prospect Research and Donor Systems

DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:

Reporting directly to the Chief Development Officer in a fast paced, mission-driven department, the Director of Prospect Research will be responsible for managing individual and institutional research and managing the donor prospect pipeline to assist with the fundraising efforts of the Chief Development Officer and the Chief Executive Officer, as well as managing the donor data management and processing functions, including reporting and other functions.

Key Responsibilities:

Donor Research & Prospect Pipeline Management:

  • Researching donor prospect opportunities from individuals, foundations, and corporations.

  • Developing systems for detailed background reporting and prioritization of donor prospects.

  • Developing, implementing, and managing research, analysis, and identification of prospects.

  • Providing timely and accurate information and strategy to support fundraising efforts.

  • Analyzing, interpreting, and evaluating financial, business, personal, and biographical information for current and potential donors Producing research reports Performing other related duties as necessary.

    Gift Processing

  • Process daily gifts and reconciles revenue reports with Finance.

  • Provide tax acknowledgments to donors for all donations.

  • Promote and track matching gift opportunities.

    Events

  • Assists team with all aspects of event planning and on-site coordination.

    Tracking and Analysis

  • Ensure accuracy and completeness of records in Blackbaud Raiser’s Edge RENXT database, including tracking of campaigns and appeals, contact information, and relationship history.

  • Research information on trends and strategies to improve retention and acquisition rates such as (monthly donors, lapsed donors, annual, mid-level and major donors).

  • Generates reports and updates, including preparing reports for relevant internal stakeholders.

    Required Criteria

    Bachelor’s degree or equivalent.

    2-5 years of relevant experience in a non-profit setting, preferably in a development, fiscal, or administrative role.

    Donor management system and reporting experience.

    Experience researching individual and institutional donors and prospects.

    Fundraising, public relations, and/or event planning experience.

    Limited experience working with external stake holders such as donors, vendors, etc.

    Excellent written and oral communication skills, with proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel.

    Exceptional organizational and planning skills with attention to detail.

    Personal Qualifications:

  • Self-motivated, able to work independently and responsibly, with limited supervision.

  • Superb writing and editing skills.

  • Proven track record of prospect research that helps lead to major gifts.

  • Energy, initiative, intellect, flexibility, and a team player.

  • Exceptional organizational abilities and attention to detail.

  • Ability to prioritize tasks and work accurately under the pressure of a deadline-focused job.

  • Excellent communication skills; discretion and diplomacy in dealing with the key organizational stakeholders.

HOURS:

37.5 Hours per week

  • Monday-Friday 9:00am-5:30pm (Partially remote)

PROGRAM DESCRIPTION:

This 103-bed men's shelter in Brooklyn serves a population suffering from multiple issues including mental illness, substance abuse and serious medical problems. The program offers the full range of case management services as well as on-site psychiatric and medical care. It also incorporates a workforce development component for men who can benefit from this service. The Lexington Avenue Residence is funded by the NYC Department of Homeless Services.
