Why this job matters
The purpose of the Software Engineering Specialist role is to create, lead and implement significant technical solutions that could impact internally and/or externally.
The key purpose of the role is to take ownership of a solution, including design, implementation, unit and component testing, and preparation for the solution deployment.
You will work within an experienced team and gain guidance, training and formal training as required when needed. This is a fantastic opportunity for an enthusiastic
individual to join an expanding team and grow their own technical knowledge. This role is critical in keeping Secure Platforms functioning efficiently for our numerous
secure customers, who rely on BT to manage their critical networks.
Requirements:
Must have SC or be able to obtain HMG SC clearance and Police NPPV3 with (Met extension) within an agreed period of starting (implies residency and other requirements)
Must be located in one of BT's Digital’s Key Strategic locations : Manchester, Bristol, London (Baynard House) or Belfast
BT Hybrid Model : 3 days a week in an office
What you’ll be doing
Become an SME for Service Now – developing developer skills
Bringing existing ITSM / CMDB skills to the team
Requirements capture with Stakeholders
Design and Build of Application based upon requirements
Make modifications to existing code or develop completely new modules of moderate complexity
Provide updates and estimates during the development and deployment cycle
Update design and support documentation
Work collaboratively with other teams to solve problems
Key Responsibilities
Perform onboarding functions to enable smooth and effective transition of new contracts onto the platform.
Ensure the prompt resolution of incidents, keeping the customer informed throughout and informing your colleagues / manager as appropriate.
As required, produce an executive summary of major incidents keeping senior management informed of the progress of key customer impacting incidents.
Ensure POR information is captured and available to wider team.
Identify cost saving opportunities within an application (e.g. Vendor, License, Waste).
Identify and document risks, making line manager or Application lead aware, and continue to assist with resolution. Validate submitted risks into the risk register,
and own risk entry.
Skills
The role holder will be joining an established team and will be responsible for the delivery, configuration & support of the Service Now application, and will be accountable
for technical solution problem solving.
Key focus will be on the delivery of solutions ensuring quality against time, cost and standards achieved by employing best practice guidelines.
The successful candidate will be expected to work closely with internal customers, external suppliers and ensure upward visibility of progress via weekly reporting
and management update calls.
