JOB REQUIREMENTS: Job Summary: The Department of Surgery, Division of Plastic Surgery, is currently recruiting a PhD level Scientist to join our renowned research team and serve as the principal basic scientist for a division of 12 faculty and 18 residents. This is an opportunity for basic research discovery in biomedical engineering, tissue engineering and regenerative medicine, as well as for translation of promising technologies into clinical trials and ultimately to improve the lives of patients. The successful candidate will serve as co-director of the Microsurgery and Regenerative Medicine Lab (MSRM). The MSRM has a research theme of clinical and experimental microsurgery, with an emphasis on peripheral nerve regeneration and repair. The UW Department of Surgery consists of more than 160 faculty across eleven specialty divisions, performing more than 25,000 operations annually. The Department also trains more than 70 residents and fellows and is consistently ranked amongst the top surgery programs with extramural research funding, currently 7th in the nation according to Blue Ridge Institute for Medical Research. The department provides a robust infrastructure of services including academic resources such as The Wisconsin Surgical Outcomes Research Program (WiSOR), which provides support, resources, and a collaborative environment to facilitate surgical health services research at the University of Wisconsin. The Department\'s Office of Clinical Research provides coordinator support for Clinical Trials as well regulatory support for research, and the grants management team provides comprehensive pre-award to post- award support. The Surgical Collaborative of Wisconsin also provides access to a network of surgeons throughout the state and this platform provides opportunities for collaborative quality improvement that improves the care of surgical patients throughout the state and region.
