Perform or contract others to perform prebuilding assessments, such as conceptual cost estimating, rough order of magnitude estimating, feasibility, or energy efficiency, environmental, and sustainability assessments. Plan, organize, or direct activities concerned with the construction or maintenance of structures, facilities, or systems. Plan, schedule, or coordinate construction project activities to meet deadlines. Prepare contracts or negotiate revisions to contractual agreements with architects, consultants, clients, suppliers, or subcontractors. Requisition supplies or materials to complete construction projects. Study job specifications to determine appropriate construction methods. Read specifications, such as blueprints, to determine construction requirements or to plan procedures. Estimate material or worker requirements to complete jobs. Confer with managerial or technical personnel, other departments, or contractors to resolve problems or to coordinate activities. Provide assistance to workers engaged in construction or extraction activities, using hand tools or other equipment. Record information, such as personnel, production, or operational data on specified forms or reports. Collect historical cost data to estimate costs for current or future products. Consult with clients, vendors, personnel in other departments, or construction foremen to discuss and formulate estimates and resolve issues. Prepare estimates used by management for purposes such as planning, organizing, and scheduling work. Analyze blueprints and other documentation to prepare time, cost, materials, and labor estimates. Confer with engineers, architects, owners, contractors, and subcontractors on changes and adjustments to cost estimates. Assess cost effectiveness of products, projects or services, tracking actual costs relative to bids as the project develops. Prepare estimates for use in selecting vendors or subcontractors. Set up cost monitoring and reporting systems and procedures. Prepare and maintain a directory of suppliers, contractors and subcontractors. Review material and labor requirements to decide whether it is more cost-effective to produce or purchase components. Prepare cost and expenditure statements and other necessary documentation at regular intervals for the duration of the project.
