Saint-Gobain Maintenance Supervisor in Lynchburg, Virginia

This position is responsible for the rationalization, planning and scheduling of maintenance activities to drive sustainable plant reliability. It requires hands-on supervision of mechanical maintenance employees in the installation, maintenance, repair and/or replacement of plant equipment, machinery, buildings, etc. Will coordinate and lead efforts to efficiently manage hourly mechanics including millwrights, welders, pipefitters, lubrication technicians (i.e. oilers), machinists, forklift mechanics, reliability technicians, maintenance helpers and trainees in the installation, maintenance, repair and/or replacement of plant equipment, buildings, machinery, infrastructure, etc. Will be a leader in the strategic planning and execution of day-to-day and outage maintenance, capital and non-capital projects, risk management efforts, and demolition work.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

  • Accountable for the safety of mechanical maintenance activities.

  • Will teach, promote, and improve safety procedures for employees and contractors such as LOTO, work permits, safety audits, PPE compliance, etc.

  • Identifies and leads development efforts and training for the maintenance team in both technical and soft skills.

  • Will drive maintenance work order process to efficiently review, approve, plan, schedule, execute, and complete work orders.

  • Ensures the sustainability of improvements completed by the maintenance team.

  • Works with maintenance manager, maintenance planner, and department managers to ensure correct prioritization and timely completion of all work orders.

  • Coordinate maintenance activities with departments to maximize safety and minimize plant downtime.

  • Coordinate activities with and support electrical/instrumentation department and their objectives.

  • Maintain, use, and train on CMMS (SAP) system.

  • Drive 5S in maintenance shop and maintenance work/storage areas.

  • Plan, utilize, and manage outside contractors as necessary.

  • Work with engineering and central purchasing on large capital projects and/or process improvements.

  • Prepare and submit capital requests for approval.

  • Development of detailed preventative maintenance tasks and procedures.

  • Support non-maintenance 5S efforts across the mill.

  • Maintains various departmental records, files, reports, and equipment ledgers.

  • Responsible for purchasing card and monthly statement reconciliation.

  • Responsible for staying on target for the mechanical maintenance budget.

  • Ensuring contractors and contract work do not exceed quoted budgets.

  • Directly responsible for supervision of mechanical maintenance technicians.

  • Monitors work hours, vacation/holiday requests, and conducts company disciplinary procedures when required.

WORKING CONDITIONS

Works in a manufacturing plant environment with exposure to heat/cold, water, dust, chemicals, and noise. The mill is a 24-hour, 7-day a week operation and work hours will vary depending on business needs.- Occasional long hours, weekend, and holiday work will be required.- May travel as needed, usually via airplanes and rental cars.- Will frequently be expected to be available by phone after hours, on weekends, and holidays.-

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Must be able to spend significant amount of time on plant floor.- Job requires bending, stooping, climbing, reaching, carrying, entering confined spaces, navigating rough terrain, and infrequent lifting of up to 75lbs.- Must be able to wear required personal protective equipment.

  • Requires a bachelor’s degree in engineering or 5 years of equivalent maintenance experience in an industrial setting may be substituted for a degree.

  • Core competencies include a passion for detail, effective verbal, written, and listening communication skills, ability to organize and retrieve information, and to handle people tactfully and effectively in situations involving various educational and employment levels.

  • Strong people development, teamwork, and collaborative decision-making skills.

  • Proficient with Microsoft Office suite. Able to effectively use local business and CMMS (SAP) systems.

  • Must be flexible to adapt to changing and varying work requirements.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience with 5S and/or Lean manufacturing principles.

  • Experience with AutoCAD.

  • Experience with conditioned based maintenance and/or preventative/predictive maintenance techniques/processes.
