JMT is seeking a Construction Manager to be responsible for managing a new wastewater pump station and pipeline utilities installation in Louisa County, Virginia. The Construction Manager will oversee the new construction and renovation of existing facilities. Also, they will be responsible for the oversight of junior level inspection staff, interaction with designers, and the contractor on behalf of the County. Work will also include quality oversight of up to 20 miles of in-ground pipeline with coordination of other utilities and VDOT.

The selected candidate will work with a team of experienced construction project managers and construction inspection professionals. This exciting project includes the construction and installation of a water distribution projects, pump stations, pipelines, and water/wastewater treatment projects.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Maintain excellent relationships with clients, building occupants and end users, architects/engineers, and contractors

  • Manage project schedule from inception to close out

  • Run project job-site meetings

  • Participate in client presentations

  • Oversee and manage assigned staff working on project

  • Coordinate with all technical resources on the project team

  • Development of extra work order requests and open-end contract task proposals

  • Review contractor work in place to ensure compliance with plans and specifications

  • Review and approve contractor monthly requisitions and invoices

  • Efficient change order management and cost control

  • Report on project issues and provide status updates

  • Perform other duties as may be required

Required Skills

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills

  • Effective leadership skills for managing and mentoring field staff

  • Ability to take charge and effectively manage contractors to meet project schedule

  • Knowledge of OSHA safety regulations with 10HR OSHA Safety card

  • The ability to work well with others, and willingness to learn in a team environment

  • Ability to evaluate contractor provided construction CPM schedules, including logic and sequencing

Required Experience

  • Minimum of ten years of construction experience serving as a Construction Manager, Construction Management Representative, Owner’s Representative or Construction Superintendent

  • Experience with water/wastewater facilities with pumps, VFD, generators, switch gears, tilt-up construction, water lines, and force mains

  • Knowledge and experience working with general building construction and/or municipalities on project costs and budgets, processing change requests, requests for information, submittals, and field observation reports

  • Experience using SharePoint or electronic construction management software (ProCore, E-Builder, etc.) to communicate construction progress and process documentation

  • Experience using MS Excel or related cost estimating software to develop Independent Cost Estimates for change order negotiations

  • Experience reviewing engineering designs, contractor shop drawings and/or vendor specifications and plans, or similar, to determine constructability and practicality of proposed work and adherence to established standards and requirements

Preferred Experience

  • Bachelors Degree in Engineering, Architecture, or Construction Management

  • Engineering in Training (EIT), Registered Professional Engineer (PE), Certified Construction Manager (CCM), or Project Management Professional (PMP)

  • Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) 30-hour construction safety training

  • Experience with VDOT coordination

  • Experience with Louisa County, VA

Working Conditions

Work is performed in both an office and field (construction) environment. Office to field time is approximately 25% to 75% respectively. Field work requires climbing, walking and standing at a construction site and may be outside in heat/cold, wet/humid, and dry/arid conditions. Some lifting (up to 25 lbs) may be required. Travel required.
