UCLA Health Staff Research Associate I - Surgery in Los Angeles, California
Description
The Department of Surgery is seeking to hire a part time Staff Research Associate Level I (SRA I) in a cutting-edge plastic surgery research lab under the mentorship of the Principal Investigator.
Duties of this role include:
Experimental Procedures and Bench Work
Assisting with preparation for and completion of experiments
Helping with data acquisition and experimental flow
Cell culture maintenance, standard molecular biology techniques both classical and modern
Animal Research: Help maintaining mouse colonies
Assist with genotyping, breeding, organ harvesting
Help maintain animal compliance paperwork and protocols
Lab Administrative Duties: Assist in ordering of supplies and inventory management
Help preparing lab buffer, chemical and reagent stocks for general lab use
Data Management and Manuscript Preparation
Procedural and statistical analysis of experimental data
Creation of data figures for use in manuscripts and presentations
Pay Range: $26.51Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in a life science field (eg Biology).
Excellent work ethic and desire for personal growth and development.
Ability to work flexible hours and varying timelines, as needed.
Ability to establish and maintain productive working relationships internally and externally.
Ability to communicate in oral and written form, for the purpose of providing information to others in the laboratory. This includes the ability to record findings and methods in a laboratory journal in an accurate, complete, and timely way.
Skill in tact and diplomacy.
Working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, Access and web-based database programs.
Ability to be self-motivated, work with minimal supervision at times, handle multiple tasks and prioritize workload.
Ability to work as part of a team and establish cooperative working relationships with researchers, residents, students, and other support personnel.
Knowledge of UCLA Policies and Procedures, especially those for purchasing and waste disposal
Organized, detail oriented, and able to quickly adapt to the addition of novel tasks.
Ability to perform general laboratory techniques such as weighing, sterilizing, titration, glassware washing, filtering, reagent and buffer prep, maintaining sterile technique with meticulous attention to detail.
Willingness to work with large and small research animals (mice, rats, rabbits), experience in area is preferred
Basic science bench work experience, especially cell culture with asceptic technique
Knowledge of how to use and maintain modern laboratory equipment including incubators, tissue culture hoods, centrifuges, balances, and pH meter.
Mathematical skills to calculate chemical and biological concentrations in solutions.
