Job Description:
L3Harris Integrated Vision Solutions (IVS), a leading designer and manufacturer of laser, night vision and electro-optic devices is seeking a Hardware Engineering Department Manager to pursue a career in a fast-paced company where new designs become production reality.
The Hardware Engineering Department Manager will lead a team of electrical, mechanical, optical, and configuration management engineers and functional managers within the product development organization and be responsible for leading the hardware engineering department including planning, research & development, and execution of all tasking on projects, pursuits, and programs.
You will manage the design and execution (i.e. scope, schedule, and staffing) of projects as well as the development and improvement of engineering processes. This management role is also responsible for functional requirements of staffing (manpower/resource planning), recruiting, training, talent development, engagement, and retention of employees. A variety of Hardware Engineering management and technical skills, specifically in the development of high technology weapon-mounted, helmet-mounted, and hand-held military products will be required to bring projects from concept to production.
Essential Functions:
Provide technical leadership and mentorship to the engineering team, fostering a culture of innovation and excellence
Ensure compliance with industry regulations and standards
Manage resource allocation, project scheduling, and budgeting for the hardware engineering department
Act as the hardware technical liaison with customers, suppliers, and regulatory agencies when required
Support business development efforts by contributing technical expertise to proposals and customer presentations
Work with product line teams to ensure consistent processes, including health status reporting, design and development processes, and tool usage, to improve efficiency and standardization across the organization
Coordinate with cross-functional teams to ensure obsolescence considerations are integrated into new product development processes
Collaborate with engineering, procurement, and other relevant departments to implement design modifications or source alternative components to mitigate the impact of obsolescence on our products
Conduct reviews of hardware designs, analysis, and change notices
Collaborate effectively with other leadership functions across the organization including Operations, Quality, Program Management, and Business Development
Qualifications:
Bachelor's Degree with 12 years prior experience, Graduate Degree with 10 years prior experience. In lieu of a degree, minimum of 16 years of prior related experience
Minimum of 5 years experience managing a team/department with direct reports
Ability to obtain US security clearance if required
Preferred Additional Skills:
Experience with CAD modeling and analysis software (NX/NASTRAN preferred)
Experience in hardware development. Defense, aerospace, or medical product environments preferred. Specific expertise:
- Design for harsh environments, including shock, extreme temperatures, and immersion
Design and integration of optical components and subsystems
Design of electronics and packaging, both rigid and flexible circuits and related interconnects
Design of molded plastic parts
Design for manufacturing, weight, and DTUPC project requirements
Experience with creating engineering estimates, plans, and BoE’s
Knowledge of staff planning, milestone scheduling, and related financial management
Experience with total lifecycle of programs including proposals, bids, planning, assessing/managing risk, and execution
