OVERVIEW OF THE DEPARTMENT/SECTION

Growth & Middle Market Technology Banking is a specialised team dedicated to building lead relationships through delivering sound, strategic, and balanced advice, as well as lending and the full MUFG platform, to growth stage and mid-market public companies.

The mission for this team is to:

  • Deliver in-depth technology industry knowledge and perspective, with a focus on industry trends, dynamics, and the competitive landscape.

  • Accelerate the strategic dialogue between the client and MUFG.

  • Provide access to an industry specialised credit organisation, delivering faster decisions and tailored solutions to the client.

  • Align relationships within GMMT with all product stakeholders.

  • Leverage MUFG’s advanced technology partnerships, innovation, strategic & commercial capital teams, as well as its global footprint, including GMMT professionals in other global regions.

  • Engage with venture capital and private equity sponsors, key influencers and board members, and leverage relationships with venture debt lenders and other partners in the ecosystem

MAIN PURPOSE OF THE ROLE

This senior banker will be responsible for initiating, developing, and enhancing relationships and will seek to expand the bank’s client portfolio within the vertical. The position strives to build the GMMT business in EMEA and maintain an aggressive calling plan on prospective clients.

This individual will be responsible to deliver on budgeted financial performance for deposits, loan commitments, loan outstandings, and cross sales of related banking products and services, all while ensuring strong credit quality of the portfolio. The individual will have significant market visibility and will be expected to self-generate leads by building relationships with growth & middle market technology companies, Private Equity & Venture Capital sponsors and other key contacts within the entrepreneurial ecosystem (CEOs, CFOs, Debt Advisors, Lawyers, Accountants, etc.).

The individual will be expected to identify, negotiate, and present to senior credit committee all aspects of a lending opportunity with the ability to lead a new deal from origination to closing. This role is strategic in nature and as such the banker should utilize bank capital in an effective manner that will ultimately foster long-standing, profitable client relationships.

Business Development

  • Actively expand the Bank's GMMT client base by driving new client acquisitions and cross selling into your client base.

  • Build a brand within your market(s) where you are the go-to banker for growth and mid-market technology companies.

  • Develop new and maintain meaningful relationships with key market influencers in your target markets.

  • Focus on advisory relationships where you bring both insights and tangible solutions to both pre-IPO and mid market public technology companies.

  • Explore and originate new business opportunities through marketing activities and contribute to the growth of the business in terms of assets, market share, and revenue.

  • Maintain a high level of touch with clients and continually foster those relationships on behalf of MUFG.

  • Support the development of sales strategies.

  • Identify cross-sell opportunities and make appropriate referrals.

Transaction Execution

  • Lead or partner with credit solutions colleagues on all aspects of deal sourcing, structuring, negotiating, underwriting, internal credit approvals, documentation and closing without assistance or further counsel.

  • Collaborate with the portfolio team to actively manage the credit risk of the portfolio and monitor and maintain financial conditions using MUFG’s risk framework

  • Work closely with credit solutions and credit administration teams to provide a variety of debt structures to our target market.

  • Structure, place, and execute financing for buyer-led and seller-led clients and prospects.

  • Express complex financial strategies in an organized and articulate manner.

  • Continuously contribute to a collaborative, cohesive, active, and rewarding team environment.

  • Work with internal partners, Compliance, and Legal to ensure safe and sound deal execution and management, as well as sound overall management of the portfolio.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Essential:

  • Strong understanding of Commercial Banking products and services.

  • Broad understanding of capital structures including proficiency in equity and debt capital markets.

  • Deep understanding of market credit structures for pre-IPO and public technology companies.

  • Proven track record of business development success, sales management expertise, and closing meaningful transactions – a closer.

  • A history of building and maintaining C-Suite advisory client relationships.

  • Analytical skills in credit and operational matters.

  • Manage risk appetite while financing technology businesses.

  • Negotiation skills, including the ability to leverage persuasion, diplomacy, and salesmanship.

  • A player and coach; maintain and grow personal client relationships while assisting colleagues when needed.

  • Ability to gain the buy-in of groups and individuals and foster collaboration.
