Reports to: Director of Career/Technical and Adult Education
Job Objective: Coordinates ABLE program activities. Plans, implements, and assesses student learning experiences. Helps students make appropriate choices and grow academically.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Valid state department of education license/certificate appropriate for the position
- Meets all mandated health requirements (e.g., a negative tuberculosis test, etc.)
- A record free of criminal violations that would prohibit public school employment
- Complies with drug-free workplace rules and board policies
- Keeps current with advances in technology and workplace innovations that enhance productivity
- Effective organizational planning and project management skills
Ability to identify, evaluate, and implement program options, auxiliary services, and curricular materials that support the diverse learning needs of students

- Coordinates the Adult Basic and Literacy Education (ABLE) program. Oversees the revision and distribution of program handbooks. Implements a strategy to actively publicize program services
- Encourages innovations. Analyzes data to improve program operations
- Prepares grant applications. Administers the board-approved program budget. Monitors and
controls expenditures. Ensures that all fiscal activities are properly documented and reported
Organizes an advisory committee. Work in partnership with the state department of education, teacher training personnel, and community organizations
Collaborates with public and private entities. Seeks opportunities to participate in joint training ventures. Coordinates arrangements with employers to provide on-site training opportunities
Oversees enrollment and orientation activities. Helps screen participants for learning difficulties and resolve problems that impede student participation in program services
Prepares the classroom or designated area for instruction. Teaches assigned classes
Advances the district's professional image. Promotes effective communications and assistance. Uses problem-solving techniques to tactfully address questions/concerns
Upholds board policies and follows administrative guidelines/procedures. Refers questions about district policies to administrators/supervisors
Develops curriculum that prepare individuals for the General Education Development (GED) test
Identifies and acquires equipment, software, and instructional materials that enhance learning
Evaluates the academic needs of students. Develops effective student educational experiences that engage and stimulate student learning. Varies instructional techniques to address diverse student learning styles
Scores practice tests. Collaborates with the examiner to develop and implement strategies that increase the number of participants taking the exam
Communicates expectations, provides guidance, and shows an active interest in student progress. Helps students understand program objectives and behavioral/performance standards
Uses formal and informal assessment strategies to manage student learning and monitor progress
Helps students identify and make use of supplemental instructional/media resources
Encourages self-reliance, problem-solving, critical-thinking, creativity, and performance skills
Maintains a positive learning environment. Facilitates student learning activities that encourage collaboration and positive peer relationships<
