MIT Lincoln Laboratory Network Engineer in Lexington, Massachusetts
Position Description
The Network Engineer IC3 will contribute to a team responsible for the operations of the Laboratory's Enterprise Networks. The successful candidate will assist in the day-to-day support and maintenance of production routers, switches, firewalls and other networking devices in use at the Laboratory. This position requires someone with a high degree of troubleshooting and analytical skills to quickly diagnose and resolve network issues.
Primary Duties
Network Engineering
Responsible for network backbone to edge equipment to include but not limited to operating, configuring, upgrading and maintaining routers, switches, firewalls, Application Delivery Controllers, Network Access Control appliances, WiFi controllers and SSL/VPN systems. (Juniper MX, EX; Palo Alto; F5; Aruba ClearPass and WiFi) Responsible for maintaining documentation of related network implementations and update changes. Review, plan, evaluate and troubleshoot network systems, and recommend improvements to the network.
Network Operations Support
Provide second level support resolving Help Desk tickets assigned to the Network Communications Services team.
Project Network Support and Consulting
Provide network project support to internal teams with the implementation of enterprise and operational service upgrades and new initiatives.
Provide network consulting and support to the research community.
This position is under supervision of the Network Operations Team Lead.
This position will maintain frequent contact with internal department and/or Laboratory user community as well as external vendors to maintain communications related to problem resolution, systems upgrades, services and product research.
Qualifications
Knowledge and Skills Required
In-depth knowledge and experience with Juniper routing and switching technology.
In-depth knowledge and experience with Juniper and Palo Alto firewalls.
In-depth knowledge and experience with F5 Application Delivery Controllers.
In-depth knowledge and experience with WiFi technology, preferably Aruba Wireless and ClearPass.
Python, Ansible, Puppet experience a plus.
Basic understanding TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, SNMP, OSPF, and BGP protocols.
Ability to work analytically in a problem-solving environment.
Excellent customer service skills (verbal and written).
Ability to learn new technologies and disciplines quickly.
Ability to work in a fast-paced team environment with proven ability to work effectively with others, handles multiple tasks simultaneously, and prioritizes to meet deadlines.
Preferred
Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, or other related scientific or technical discipline.
Security+ Certification
ITIL v3 Foundations Certification
Knowledge of DoD networks and NIST security controls
Experience Required
5 - 8 years of experience of technical IT experience supporting enterprise networks
Other Qualifications:
Ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance.
Relies on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals. A wide degree of creativity and latitude is expected.
This role requires participation in an on-call schedule as well as a certain degree of flexibility as some work (planned/unplanned) must be done outside of major production hours during pre-scheduled maintenance windows.

The individual must be able to work in a fast-paced environment at times with minimal supervision and execute project and administrative tasks with a high degree of quality, while following existing processes and establishing new operational procedures and best practices where necessary.
