Argonne National Laboratory Postdoctoral Appointee – Electrochemical Energy Storage in Lemont, Illinois
The Chemical Sciences and Engineering Division is seeking a Postdoctoral Appointee to mainly conduct research to develop high-energy and long-life lithium sulfur batteries under the guidance of a supervisor.
The project focuses on the synthesis, characterization of physical and chemical structures, and electrochemical evaluation of sulfur cathodes in both coin and pouch cells. The candidate will investigate the relationship between the physical and chemical properties of sulfur cathodes and their electrochemical performance. Experience with various electrolytes, including both liquid and solid, for lithium-sulfur batteries is required.
Additionally, the candidate will employ advanced characterization techniques, such as electron microscopy and synchrotron X-ray probes, to gain mechanistic insights into battery performance.
Responsibilities also include data analysis, manuscript preparation for peer-reviewed publications, presentation of research at scientific conferences, and preparation of reports and presentations for group meetings.
Position Requirements
Recent or soon-to-be-completed PhD (within the last 0-5 years) in fieldin Chemistry, Chemical or Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science, or a related field - expertise in applying scientific knowledge and conducting practical laboratory research
Extensive experience in synthesizing and optimizing host materials for lithium-sulfur batteries
Hands-on expertise in electron microscopy for characterizing reaction intermediates and products formed during lithium-sulfur battery cycling
Proficiency in synchrotron-based X-ray techniques, such as X-ray diffraction and spectroscopy, for in situ studies of materials and interfacial chemistry during battery operation
Strong foundation in electrochemistry, with the ability to perform cyclic voltammetry, electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS), and galvanostatic testing
Proven ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
Expertise in processing and analyzing experimental results
