CITY OF LEADVILLE Animal Shelter Manager in LEADVILLE, Colorado
POSITION: Animal Shelter Manager
DUTIES: Interprets, enforces, and investigates complaints of violations of local and state laws, codes, resolutions, and ordinances Participate in numerous facets of the rabies control program - i.e. investigates animal bites, quarantines animals when necessary, investigates all reports of suspected rabid animals, and submits specimens to the State Health Department when required. Prepare case files for all investigations requiring such to include witness statements, incident reports, photos, and any other evidence and present to the District Attorney s Office. Appear in court as a witness for the prosecution. Must be able to accurately recall facts i.e. the date, time, and exact circumstances of any incident or violation. Maintain accurate animal control records by inputting activities, citations, warnings and statistical data into the database. Maintain citation, warning, and license reports on a recurring basis. Apprehend and impound animals that are at large or not under control or those that are in violation of local and state laws. Transport shelter animals to veterinarians or for other care as requested. Pick up and transport injured strays to emergency veterinary facilities after providing immediate first aid. Remove and dispose of deceased domestic animals with no known owners and/or which are creating a public health hazard on public right of ways. Maintain accurate records of animals impounded by inputting information into established database. Assist in front desk duties to include performing redemptions, selling licenses, processing receipts, welcoming visitors, providing information to customers on animals, laws, policies and procedures, and preparing daily cash books as necessary. Assist in the maintenance of the Leadville Lake County Animal Shelter facility by performing sanitation of animal holding areas and proper animal care. Participate in animal evaluation for placement or euthanasia. Assist with the shelter adoption program as needed or directed. Fill scheduling gaps and attend shelter meetings as requested. Educate the public daily on Animal Control laws and proper pet care and discipline. Assist the public promptly and diplomatically in remedying problems concerning animals where no blatant violation of the law has occurred. Provide information to the public regarding all aspects of responsible pet ownership and local regulations pertaining to pet animals. Prepare and present educational programs for schools and various groups in Lake County as directed. Coordinate animal control presence at community events.
REQUIREMENTS: High School Diploma or GED Obtain and maintain State of Colorado Animal Control Certification within twelve months. Complete and certify in National Animal Control Association courses. Obtain and maintain State of Colorado Animal Control Certification through Animal Welfare Association of Colorado.
PREFERRED REQUIREMENTS: Associates Degree
WAGE: $24.00-$28.00/hour
