The Company 

Intellijoint Surgical develops effective and easy-to-use products to enhance surgeons’ care and patients’ lives. Today, Intellijoint technology lives in the operating room, helping surgeons improve implant positioning during hip and knee replacement surgeries. Our technology has been used in over 60,000 surgeries. We are seeking a Business Development Associate to help bring innovative technologies to the market in Canada!  

The Position 

The Business Development Associate will support the business expansion of Intellijoint Surgical in Canada. Reporting directly to the Business Development Manager, Canada, the BD Associate takes pride in driving the business forward through relationship development, providing outstanding customer service and case coverage. This unique opportunity will be part of introducing and supporting an innovative technology in the Canadian market that improves surgical outcomes and can restore a patient’s quality of life. This fast-paced position in orthopedic surgery requires a high degree of personal responsibility and the ability to quickly identify and establish relationships with surgeons and hospital administrative personnel.

Main Duties: 

  • New Business Generation: Lead and/or manage complex selling activities involving multiple decision-makers and teams of buyers. This includes generating leads, making sales calls, identifying decision-makers, influencing change in customers, and gaining/renewing hospital contract approvals. 

  • Business Acumen: Be strategic, organized and efficient in developing business plans, sales presentations and tracking progress towards business objectives. 

  • New Account Launch: Become technically proficient at all indications and provide surgical case coverage to uphold the safe and effective use of Intellijoint Surgical’s technology during a new customer’s adoption phase. 

  • Expand and Maintain Customer Base: Support the achievement of revenue target each and every quarter by expanding business with existing customers and converting new business, while ensuring the existing customer base is retained. 

  • Account Management: Transition customers to product usage independence. This includes providing and documenting formal training sessions to surgeons, nurses, physician assistants, scrub techs, sterile processing associates, and other hospital staff. Account management will involve training and coordinating with distributors and/or independent representatives to maintain clinical activities and establish transparent case reporting in certain situations. 

  • Personal Accountability: Establishes and maintains communication with peers and sales management through Intellijoint’s tracking and CRM tools. Attention is dedicated to number of sales calls made, follow-up required, market/opportunity potential and recommendations as to new sales, pricing, or promotional strategies. 

  • Continuous Product Improvement: Work collaboratively with Marketing and Research & Development to convey customer feedback and provide insights into new opportunities and/or programs for growth. 

  • Inventory & Logistics: Maintain, track, and effectively deploy equipment and assets throughout the assigned area, guaranteeing product availability and accurate inventory. Ensure Intellijoint Surgical’s products and offerings meet the highest quality standards. Including, maintaining presentable promotional materials. Help with distribution/logistics such as tray and consumable delivery to facilities, system updates, and system setup. 

Skills and Experience to Enable Success: 

  • Relevant educational background includes, but is not limited to, health sciences, life sciences, kinesiology, biomedical engineering, and the like.  

  • Previous sales, customer service, or retail experience is a desirable asset. 

  • Experience working in a clinical setting, Operating Room, and/or cadaver lab environment is a highly desirable asset. 

  • Able to understand and articulate the value of the company’s products in both clinical and economic terms. 

  • Strong emotional intelligence and ability to use a methodical approach to selling within unique hospital and surgical settings. 

  • Able to navigate challenges, understand roadblocks, receive “no” answers, and be adaptable in response. 

  • Able to make thoughtful, independent decisions in fast-paced, high-stress situations. 

  • Strong technical aptitude, including mental math and trigonometry 

  • A basic knowledge of anatomy is a highly desirable asset. 

     

Travel and Work Requirements: 

  • Working on a flexible work schedule, with occasional weekend and after-hours work.   

  • Travel in Southwestern Ontario – up to 75% of the time (i.e. GTA, KW Region, London) 

  • Overnight travel within Canada can be expected at a minimum of 5 days out of the month – 25% of the time (i.e. Quebec, Ottawa, Calgary, New Brunswick) 

     

Physical Job Requirements: 

The physical demands described are representative of those that an employee must meet to perform the essential functions of this job successfully. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform essential functions. 

  • Frequent 2-handed lifting of up to 40 lbs. from floor to chair/table and from one to another surface at approximately the same level. 

  • Sitting, standing and/or walking for up to eight plus hours per day. 

  • Environmental exposures include eye protection, infectious disease and radiation. 

  • Ability to wear 7-9 lbs of lead for extended periods of time while in the Operating Room. 

  • Ability to navigate tight spaces within an Operating Room. 

  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus in relation to travel and operating a personal computer. 

  • Business Development Associates are required to be available within their assigned territory each day as unscheduled needs arise. 

  • Has access to a vehicle and must have a valid driver's license and active vehicle insurance policy.
