Lenoir Community College HVACR Systems Instructor - Continuing Education (Part-time) in Kinston, North Carolina
The HVACR Instructor is responsible for providing quality skills instruction to our HVACR students through seated and practical hands-on/lab courses.The Instructor is responsible for providing one-on-one and whole group instruction so that students are able to acquire the skills expected in a "high-quality esthetics" environment. The instructor's duties will include promoting HVACR programs in local and surrounding communities by advocating workforce development opportunities.
Mastery of Subject Matter
- Demonstrate a thorough and accurate knowledge of their field or discipline
- Display an ability to interpret and evaluate the theories of their field or discipline
- Connect their subject matter with related fields
- Stay current in their subject matter through professional development; involvement in professional organizations; and attending professional meetings, conferences, or workshops
- Use technology to enhance teaching and educational experiences when appropriate
- Plan and organize instruction in ways that maximize student learning (This includes lesson plans for each class meeting.)
Teaching Performance
- Employ appropriate teaching and learning strategies to communicate subject matter to students
- Modify, where appropriate, instructional methods and strategies to meet diverse student needs
- Employ available instructional technology when appropriate
- Encourage the development of communication skills and higher order thinking skills through appropriate assignments
- Contribute to the selection and development of instructional materials in accordance with course objectives
- Maintain accurate student rosters and attendance
Evaluation of Student Learning
- Establish and follow meaningful learning objectives
- Develop and explain methods that fairly measure student progress toward course objectives
- Evaluate student performance fairly and consistently and return student work promptly to promote maximum learning
- Maintain accurate records of student progress and submit final grade rosters to division administrator each semester according to established deadlines
- Demonstrate sensitivity to student needs and circumstances
- Ensure a safe and orderly learning environment
- Maintain accurate inventory records for all instructional resources
Qualifications
- Certification in A/C, heating and refrigeration technology or related field required
- Minimum of five years residential and/or commercial A/C, heating and refrigeration work experience required
- Must be willing to acquire the NATE certification
- Minimum of five years residential and/or commercial A/C, heating, and refrigeration work experience required
- EPA Refrigerant Recovery certification required
Working Conditions
- Teaching assignments will include evenings and weekends to accommodate student needs
- Candidate will work days, evenings, and weekends
- Occasional travel to maintain proficiency and promote the programs
