**[Controller Position Madison Lumber and Hardware, Inc. is recruiting for a controller. The company has been in business for 56 years and is a retailer of building materials. The company has a fully integrated software system so the successful applicant must be able to learn to use the software system. The controller is expected to keep records accurate so the successful applicant must accumulate, analyze, compile, and summarize data from the various modules of the software system.

The company is heavily oriented towards customer service so the successful applicant must be outgoing and congenial. The controller will work closely with the other managers and the office staff.

The successful applicant will be expected to learn all aspects of the companys operations, with a primary emphasis on finance. The controller will be responsible for preparing payroll, and the related reports, for 40-45 employees. The position oversees Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, financial reporting and tax preparation, and provides supporting documentation to the valuation firm for the valuation each year so a high level of attention to detail is a must.

The company is an Employee Stock Ownership Plan (ESOP) company and the controller will be expected to become a trustee for the ESOP trust.

Qualifications

At a minimum, the applicant needs to have a Bachelors degree, preferably in an accounting related field. The applicant must be a CPA in good standing or working towards becoming a CPA.

Three years experience in the accounting profession is preferred.

The company offers health insurance and pays 100% of the employees cost of insurance. In addition, the company will pay 55% of the premium for dependent care. The company also has a 401(k) plan and offers supplemental insurance coverage through a cafeteria plan. The company will pay for the applicants CPE to maintain their CPA license.

Rate of Pay

Negotiable based on education, CPA status, and work experience.
