Who will you be working with?

Shuttlewagon, a Wabtec Company, is looking for its next Shop Service Technician to perform maintenance and repairs to Shuttlewagon equipment and all other makes of Mobile Railcar Movers as needed. The Shop Service Technician works with highly capable and experienced team members at the Shuttlewagon Kansas City headquarters.

How will you make a difference?

The Shop Service Technician will troubleshoot, diagnose, and repair all makes of Mobile Railcar Movers, including Shuttlewagon. These repairs contribute to the reduction of downtime for our customers, which directly impacts customer satisfaction. The Shop Service Technician will also play an integral role in assisting the Production and Quality teams when needed. This cross-functional collaboration promotes quality adherence and helps ensure timely delivery of Shuttlewagon products.

What do we want to know about you?

  • High school diploma or equivalent (required).

  • Technical trade/vocational education (preferred).

  • Associated degree in automotive/diesel technology (preferred plus).

  • Heavy-duty diesel mechanical experience.

  • Strong mechanical aptitude – technical understanding of hydraulics, electrical, and primary functions of heavy equipment.

  • Knowledge of basic electrical fundamentals and testing techniques.

  • Knowledge of basic hydraulics and pneumatics.

  • Knowledge of sizes of fittings and hydraulic hoses.

  • Basic math skills.

  • High degree of attention to detail with a clear focus on quality

  • Ability to read and understand electrical and hydraulic schematics.

  • Experience using lifting devices, forklifts, porta power, cutting & grinding tools.

  • Models safe work habits and always abides by company safety policies and procedures.

  • Ability to perform necessary job duties with little or no direct supervision.

  • Adhere to company standards of ethics and trust.

What will your typical day look like?

The Shop Service Technician:

  • Typical work week: Monday-Thursday, 6:00 am to 4:30 pm

  • Troubleshoot, diagnose, and repair all makes of equipment.

  • Perform all planned maintenance and repairs as assigned.

  • Assists in loading and unloading equipment promptly and per company procedures.

  • Operate hand tools & equipment.

  • Initiate ordering of parts necessary to perform maintenance and/or complete repairs.

  • Check for leaks and loose fittings.

  • Check tolerances and torque specifications.

  • Test hydraulic and/or pneumatic pressures.

  • Remove and install various mechanical components.

  • Install production options as required.

  • Perform quality standard testing procedures.

  • Verify all repairs performed.

  • Wear all Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) required by company policy for the job being performed.

  • Understand and follow established job specific and facility safety/health procedures/rules.

  • Actively participate in safety and health briefings.

  • Bring safety and health issues, unsafe acts, and safety suggestions to management’s attention.

  • Perform other job-related duties assigned by management.

  • Climb on/off equipment ladders

  • Stand/sit for long periods of time

  • Push/pull/lift components, tooling

  • Wear PPE

Working Conditions

  • Work is primarily physically demanding and requires the ability to regularly lift and carry objects weighing up to 50 pounds. This position requires the ability to sit, stand and walk unassisted. Requires the use of hands and fingers to handle or feel objects, tools, or controls. The employee is required to talk and hear. Normal correctable vision is required.
