Job Description Summary:

The Physical Therapy Assistant is responsible for supporting an encouraging, educational atmosphere for patients in daily activities. The Physical Therapy Assistant will work with an interdisciplinary team to develop creative, effective programming for patients. The Physical Therapy Assistant will lead exercise and elective activities. In addition, they will assist with the overall implementation of daily programs including set up, clean up, and member follow up.

Job Description Summary

The Physical Therapy Assistant is responsible for supporting an encouraging, educational atmosphere for patients in daily activities. The Physical Therapy Assistant will work with an interdisciplinary team to develop creative, effective programming for patients. The Physical Therapy Assistant will lead exercise and elective activities. In addition, they will assist with the overall implementation of daily programs including set up, clean up, and member follow up.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Set up equipment to be used in program including portable tables and chairs, exercise equipment, and food preparation tools.
  • Plan activities and lead exercise group and elective options.
  • Assist therapists in working with patients to meet personal goals.
  • Instructs, motivates, and assists patients to learn and improve functional activities.
  • Performs physical therapy treatments on patients, working under direction of, and as assistant to, the Physical Therapist.
  • Assists patients with strength, mobility, and fitness through active and passive manual therapeutic exercises.
  • Track and document attendance and activities for all members.
  • Provide support to team members, promoting a healthy, positive, working environment.
  • Assist with development and implementation of new programs and services.
  • As part of staff team continually monitor and evaluate program/project effectiveness to assure compliance with goals, mission, and policies.
  • Facilitate special projects as needed.
  • Support member engagement and participation in all special events.

Required Qualifications

Education:

  • Associate\'s degree program accredited by the Commission on Accreditation in Physical Therapy Education (CAPTE). Experience cannot be substituted for this education as this is required to obtain the Physical Therapy Assistant Certification that is required for the position.

Certifications/Licenses:

  • Physical Therapy Assistant with Kansas Certification

Work Experience:

  • Experience working with individuals with physical and cognitive disabilities.

Preferred Qualifications

Work Experience:

  • Minimum one (1) year experience working with Individuals with Physical Disabilities and Cognitive Impairment. This experience should involve direct interaction and support for individuals facing challenges related to physical disabilities and cognitive impairments, particularly in a community-based setting.
  • Minimum one (1) year experience planning and leading group activities. This experience should include developing, organizing, and facilitating group activities, ideally in a healthcare or community program setting, focusing on engaging participants and accommodating diverse needs.
  • Minimum one (1) year experience with transfers. T is experience should involve safely assisting individuals with mobility challenges during transfers, such as moving from a wheelchair to exercise equipment, utilizing proper techniques to ensure safety and comfort.
  • Background of leading group activities, creating a fun social atmosphere and engaging constituents in fundraising efforts preferred.

  • Ability to engage a broad range of ages in a variety of activities.
  • Ability to handle stress in dealing with patients/families experiencing tension.
  • Ability to take direction from multiple colleagues, work autonomously, juggle multiple responsibilities at once, excellent time management skills and sense of humor are a must.
  • Solid team player with a demonstrated ability to work with flexibility and efficiency in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to make effective decisions, exercise sound judgment and discretion, and willing to do difficult or unpleasant tasks with respect.
