Summary The Lead Medical Support Assistant (MSA) for Technology, Innovation & Development (TID) with Care in the Community consult management, works in the VA St. Louis Health Care System in St. Louis, Missouri. The VA St. Louis Health Care System is a 1A-level facility that encompasses acute, sub-acute, and intermediate inpatient, nursing home, and comprehensive outpatient care at two Divisions, four Community based Outpatient clinics, one Recovery Center, and four off-site outpatient clinics. Responsibilities The Lead Medical Support Assistant (MSA) position serves as the Lead Clerk for all Medical Support Assistants (MSA) assigned to Community Care. . The Lead MSA for Specialty Clinic works closely with the HAS MSA Supervisor. Major duties of this position include, but are not limited to the following: Monitors and create employee work assignments. Resolves daily workplace issues and maintain efficient workflow. Assures coverage of all areas of responsibility. Ensures accurate and timely scheduling of consult appointments. Provides guidance to staff members to include changes in consults policy and procedures. Distributes and balance workload. Ensures MSA staff validates and updates patient details. Monitors entrance of health information is integrated into CPRS. Screens and receives phone calls in a courteous and timely manner. Assists the supervisor or Training Specialist in training staff on consult procedures. Participates in patient care planning and management meetings. Provides customer support in a courteous, tactful and respectful manner. Work Schedule: Monday - Friday 07:30am - 4:00pm Telework: Not Authorized Virtual: This is not a virtual position. Basic Requirements: United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy. English Language Proficiency: SAs must be proficient in spoken and written English in accordance with VA Handbook 5005, Part II, Chapter 3, Section A, paragraph 3.j. Experience and Education o Experience: Six months experience of clerical, office, customer service, or other administrative work that indicates the ability to acquire the particular knowledge and skills needed to perform the duties of the position; OR o Education: One year above high school; OR o Experience/Education Combination: Equivalent combination of experience and education are qualifying for entry level for which both education and experience are acceptable. Grandfathering Provision: May qualify based on being covered by the Grandfathering Provision as described in the VA Qualification Standard for this occupation (only applicable to current VHA employees who are in this occupation and meet the criteria). Grade Determinations: Lead Medical Support Assistant GS-07: Experience. One year of experience equivalent to the GS-6 grade level. Demonstrated Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities. Candidates must demonstrate all of the KSAs below: o Advanced knowledge of medical terminology and a wide range of clinical flow processes relating to access to care across multiple clinics, specialties, and/or community resources. o Ability to utilize numerous advanced patient systems in support of multiple clinics in an interdisciplinary setting. o Ability to organize work, set priorities, and delegate tasks/responsibilities in order to meet deadlines. o Skill in communicating with individuals to obtain the desired effect and coordinating with a variety of interdisciplinary care team staff. o Ability to provide staff development and training. o Ability to manage staffing requirements, manage workflow priorities, and adjust the flow of work to meet team and patient needs. This includes the ability to follow-up on pending issues and demonstrate an understanding of the impact of incomplete work across multiple clinics. Preferred Experience: Have 52 weeks of Care in the Community consult experience within the last year. Works with consult Toolbox (CTB), Consults Tracking Manager (CTM) and Electronic Privacy Information Center (EPIC). The full performance level of this vacancy is GS- 07. The actual grade at which an applicant may be selected for this vacancy is in the range of GS-07.
