Summary/Objective
A car body shop detailer is responsible for meticulously cleaning and restoring the appearance of vehicles within an auto body shop, including the exterior paint, interior upholstery, windows, and wheels, by utilizing specialized cleaning products and techniques, often focusing on post-repair detailing to ensure a flawless finish before customer delivery.
Essential Functions
Exterior detailing:
Thoroughly washing and drying vehicle exteriors.
Remove dirt, compound, overspray, and minor scratches.
Interior detailing:
Vacuuming carpets and upholstery
Cleaning and conditioning leather seats.
Cleaning dashboards, console, and door panels.
Cleaning and treating windows.
Removing debris from vents and crevices.
Inspection and reporting:
Inspecting vehicles for any damage or imperfections prior to detailing.
Documenting any existing damage or concerns.
Competencies
Excellent attention to detail.
Strong customer service skills.
Physical stamina to stand and work for extended periods.
Knowledge of various cleaning products and their proper application.
Understanding of automotive paint systems and repair processes.
Supervisory Responsibility
This position has no direct reports.
Work Environment
Outdoors exposed to changing and/or extreme weather conditions (for instance, rain, sun, snow, wind, humidity, etc.).
Physical Demands
Heavy physical activity performing strenuous daily activities of a primarily administrative or production/technical nature. Manual dexterity sufficient to reach and handle items
Position Type/Expected Hours of Work
This is a full-time position. Days and hours of work are primarily 8 hours each day, Monday through Friday on a day shift. This position often requires overtime.
Travel
This position does not have travel requirements.
Required Education and Experience
High school diploma or general education degree (GED)
2 years of body shop experience.
Experience with freshly painted panels.
Computer Operations
Basic personal computer skills.
Work Authorization/Security Clearance
Must be able to obtain TWIC badge (Transportation Working Identification Credential).
