Job Description
The Michigan Civil Service Commission is seeking a motivated and enthusiastic individual to join our team as a Human Resources Student Assistant. This exciting opportunity offers hands-on experience in a variety of HR activities within the Department of Corrections. We are looking for someone with excellent communication skills, a strong team-oriented mindset, and a passion for providing exceptional service in a fast-paced environment. This role focuses on delivering exceptional support to MDOC staff, maintaining confidentiality, and promoting seamless team collaboration.
Our working environment is fast-paced, focused on supporting the Jackson staff and facilities with various in-person and phone requests. You will spend approximately 90% of your time seated, working in an office setting where you'll utilize office equipment. Key responsibilities include greeting staff, answering questions, taking messages, communicating effectively, asking clarifying questions, and relaying information to HR analysts and technicians. Additionally, you will perform background and reference checks, look up employee status, and handle personal information, requiring you to maintain confidentiality and protect employees' sensitive data. You will also assist with onboarding new staff, including adding them to the program, printing new ID badges, creating profiles, and performing other duties as needed. Other responsibilities may evolve as the job requires.

Required Education and Experience
Current enrollment in high school, vocational or technical school, or post-secondary educational institutions. Specific information on the education and experience required for difference class levels is in thejob specifications of the Student Assistant class. Alternate Education and Experience
Student Assistant positions cannot exceed 129 working hours in a calendar month and must be enrolled in at least six credit hours per term, providing proof of enrollment at the start of each term. Student Assistant appointments end the month in which the student graduates or is no longer enrolled in school. A Student Assistant position cannot exceed six years unless otherwise approved by Human Resources.
