General Requirements:
Psychologist I: Doctorate in Clinical Psychology or Counseling Psychology required. Must be license eligible in Texas within one year of hire date. One year full-time supervised internship in college or university counseling center or other relevant setting, preferably APA accredited. A combination of education, experience, and training that would produce the required knowledge and abilities could be considered.
Psychologist II: Doctorate degree in Counseling, Psychology, Clinical Psychology, or other degree acceptable to the Texas State Board of Examiners of Psychologists ( TSBEP ). One year full-time post-doctoral clinical experience in college or university counseling center or other relevant setting. Licensed Psychologist (LP) in the State of Texas. A combination of education, experience, and training that would produce the required knowledge and abilities could be considered.
Psychologist III : Doctorate degree in Counseling, Psychology, Clinical Psychology, or other degree acceptable to the Texas State Board of Examiners of Psychologists ( TSBEP ). Five years full-time, post-licensure experience in college or university counseling center or other relevant setting – or – American Board of Professional Psychology ( ABPP ) diploma and three years full-time post licensure experience in college or university counseling center or other relevant setting. Licensed Psychologist (LP) in the State of Texas. In addition to the above requirements, must have ONE of the following: a.) one refereed publication b.) two state, regional, or national professional presentation that are relevant to job function c.) substantial professional organization activity* – or – ABPP diploma. A combination of education, experience, and training that would produce the required knowledge and abilities could be considered.
Psychologist IV: Doctorate degree in Counseling, Psychology, Clinical Psychology, or other degree acceptable to the Texas State Board of Examiners of Psychologists ( TSBEP ). Ten years full-time equivalent, post licensure experience in college or university counseling center or other relevant setting – or – American Board of Professional Psychology ( ABPP ) diploma and seven years full-time post licensure experience in college or university counseling center or other relevant setting. Licensed Psychologist (LP) in the State of Texas. In addition to the above requirements, must have: a.) three refereed publications b.) five state, regional, or national professional presentations that are relevant to job function c.) substantial professional organization activity* – or – ABPP diploma AND ONE of the following: a.) one referred publication b.) two state, regional, or national professional presentations that are relevant to the job function c.) substantial professional organization activity*. A combination of education, experience, and training that would produce the required knowledge and abilities could be considered.
- Substantial professional organization activity means major involvement in a professional association, including holding office in a state, regional, or national association, or service on a committee or board of a state, regional or national professional organization.
Preferred Qualifications
Strong preference will be given to licensed psychologists and applicants with college/university counseling center experience.
Nature & Purpose of Position/Usual Duties:
Provide clinical mental health services to the student body of Sam Houston State University. Direct clinical services include individual, couples, and group therapy as well as crisis intervention. Indirect clinical services include outreach presentations, campus/community consultation, and supervision of trainees.
Primary Responsibilities (Staff Positions Only):
Psychologist I: Conducts Personal, Couples, and Group Counseling. Provides consultation and outreach to the campus community including students, faculty, and staff. Responds to day and night psychological crisis for students. Conducts intake assessments. Provides supervision to graduate student trainees. Engages in on-going case management. Makes appropriate referrals to other agencies as necessary (e.g. M.D., Psychiatrist, etc.). Serves on university committees. Engages in staff meetings and professional development activities. Performs other related duties as assigned.
