MD Anderson Cancer Center Executive Director, Construction Operations in Houston, Texas

MD Anderson is undertaking an ambitious capital program over the next ten years that will transform the reach of our cancer physicians and researchers to our patients. This role is a fast paced, highly dynamic, and while complex is the cornerstone to enable the organizations expansion.

The Executive Director of Construction Operations works with key leaders within the organization to formulate strategies, set priorities, goals and objectives to implement diverse and complex construction projects in existing facilities with a total portfolio value of $820 million. The role will focus the team of sixty+ on streamlining projects which includes project leadership of over 300+ projects, activation of spaces, in-house design production team, and management oversight of professional services IDIQ program. Works with the AVP, Facilities Planning Design & Construction to oversee contractual plans for the design, engineering and construction of the projects. Coordinates with other members of facilities management and institutional stakeholders to support the multidisciplinary mission of the institution and provides an efficient communication channel for coordination, long range planning and problem resolution. Establishes department policies and procedures and ensures compliance with State requirements.

KEY FUNCTIONS

Executive Project Management Leadership

Provide guidance and oversight to the Directors of Capital Projects for the execution of projects up in all areas of institution including clinical (inpatient and outpatient), research, education and administration. Approximately 400 are each under $5 million with 50 being between $5-$150M. Current projects include: multiple pharmacy renovations for USP800 compliance; replacements of CTs, MRI and other major medical equipment; several upgrades to data centers; extensive MEP work in two clinical buildings to extend the life of the buildings; build out of four operating rooms; stem cell lab expansion; and the development and execution of the institutions aesthetic renewal program.

Architectural Services

Oversees the Director of Architecture whose key products are the professional architectural and design firms under an indefinite delivery/indefinite quantity (IDIQ) procurement program, management of the owners design guidelines and the in-house production team.

Activation and move Management

Oversees the Program Director responsible for the transition and activation services for all projects that fall to this position. Provide leadership to the activation and move management contracts.

Operations Management

Works directly with the AVP, Facilities Planning Design & Construction in establishing department policies and procedures for the successful delivery of services. Establishes and enforces standards, procedures, and accountability across entire team. Provides management oversight in the compliance audits with established policies and procedures. Provides management oversight in the development of contracting strategies and negotiation stances for capital contracts.

REQUIREMENTS

Required Education: Bachelors degree in construction, architecture, engineering or related field.

Preferred Education: Master's Level Degree

Preferred Certification: Registered Professional Engineer (P.E.), State of Texas or Registered Architect, State of Texas.

Required Experience: 10 years experience in facilities project management of healthcare, academic, research facilities or related.

Preferred Experience: 15 years years experience in facilities project management of healthcare, academic, and/or research facilities.
