Our Optical Communications segment has recently evolved from being a manufacturer of optical fiber and cable, hardware and equipment to being a comprehensive provider of industry-leading optical solutions across the broader communications industry.This segment is classified into two main product groupings – carrier network and enterprise network. The carrier network product group consists primarily of products and solutions for optical-based communications infrastructure for services such as video, data and voice communications. The enterprise network product group consists primarily of optical-based communication networks sold to businesses, governments and individuals for their own use.

Position Purpose:

Lead cross functional project teams through the Stage Gate Gate project management system. This includes project planning (scope, goals timelines and milestones), execution of the project plan (coordinating experiments, documenting results, and adapting plans to learnings), managing the team (motivating the team to achieve project goals, gaining consensus, conflict resolution, recognizing excellence, etc.), and managing communication up and down the organization to stakeholders and steering team members.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s in Engineering discipline or equivalent

  • 5+ years in a Product Development environment leading cross-functional workstreams requiring strong stakeholder management skills

Desired:

  • Thorough understanding of Project Management practices, principles, and tools for product development projects

  • Experience of transfer of new products into manufacturing

  • Ability to influence others who are not direct reports to achieve project objectives

  • Understanding of risk analysis tools (FMEA) and rigorous decision-making processes (KT)

  • Experience with statistical software such as Minitab a plus

Responsibilities:

  • Draw expertise from team members and the technical/commercial/manufacturing network to solve problems, drive key learnings, and progress toward project goals

  • Follow the State Gate process for project management

  • Use program management best practices as applicable, including Solution Progression Strategy, Plan of Record, Risk Assessments

  • Pursue patents for new products and technologies developed

  • Manage the performance of team members to meet the project requirements; Build consensus among team members on goals, tactics, and accountability

Physical Requirements:

  • Must be able to participate in team experiments on the manufacturing line; Often requires extended periods of standing, walking, and light lifting and/or bending

  • Must be present in the laboratory for critical testing; Often requires extended periods of standing, walking, and light lifting and/or bending

  • Must be able to do computer work for extended periods of time; Planning for, facilitating, and documenting meeting minutes. Generating and gathering input on project documents

The range for this position is $124,996.00 - $171,870.00 assuming full time status. Starting pay for the successful applicant is dependent on a variety of job-related factors, including but not limited to geographic location, market demands, experience, training, and education. The benefits available for this position are dependent on hours worked and may include medical, dental, vision, 401(k) plan, pension plan, life insurance coverage, disability benefits, and PTO.
